Don't Get Blocked by Fakes: Real Talk with the C8 DRY BAY VENT BLOCKS Inventor

Today we are going to do something a little different as we talk with our friend Amora Scott, a lady C8 Corvette owner from Indianapolis who invented and brought to market her C8 Dry Bay Vent Blocks which were created to help C8 Corvette Coupe owners keep water out of their engine bays during washing. Amora’s product launch was a success, but now her designs have been counterfeited and are being sold by Chinese companies for less.

With this interview-type format, we wanted to present Amora in her own words as she talks about C8 Dry Bay Vent Blocks.

C8 Dry Bay Vent Blocks

Keith: Welcome! Today we’re talking with Amora Scott, the inventor of the ingenious C8 DRY BAY VENT BLOCKS. Amora, thanks for joining us.

Amora: Thanks for having me! Glad to be here.

Keith: So, let’s dive right in. The C8 Corvette is an amazing machine, but like any car, it has its quirks. What problem did you identify that led you to create the C8 DRY BAY VENT BLOCKS?

Amora: The problem with the C8 Corvette coupe’s rear hatch vent wells is that they allow soap and water to enter the engine bay during washing.

Keith: “Some people might consider using a simple towel over their engine instead of the C8 BLOCKS. What are your thoughts on that, and what advantages does the C8 Dry Bay Vent Blocks offer over placing a towel on your engine?”

Amora: I also wanted to share a bit about the design philosophy behind the C8 Dry Bay Vent Blocks. The design of the C8 DRY BAY VENT BLOCKS was heavily influenced by risk management principles. Through discussions with friends in that field, I learned the importance of considering every potential risk. Therefore, I couldn’t create, in good conscience, a product that encouraged placing a flammable material like a towel over the engine, or one that hindered proper airflow. In risk management, they are trained to consider all potential scenarios. Even though a towel might seem convenient, it could easily be forgotten, or the engine started with it in place. This could lead to damage to the engine components and/or even pose a fire risk. As Murphy’s Law states, “anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.”

Keith: “Has Murphy’s Law ever come into play with your customers and the C8 DRY BAY VENT BLOCKS? Have you had any customer experiences that reinforced your decision not to design a product that sits directly against the engine, potentially impeding airflow?

Amora: Yes, The C8 DRY BAY VENT BLOCKS have been available for two years, and I’ve received calls from several customers who accidentally left them in place and lost one. I’ve gladly sent them complimentary replacements. I share this to illustrate how easily things can be overlooked. If something as noticeable as the C8 BLOCKS in plain sight can be forgotten, imagine how much more likely it is for someone to forget a towel placed out of sight directly on the engine with the hatch closed. While I understand the appeal of a simpler installation, I firmly believe that the added safety and protection offered by the C8 DRY BAY VENT BLOCKS are worth the investment. They’re designed to protect your valuable C8 from potential damage and give you the confidence that your car is safe during washing.

Keith: Was there a particular “aha!” moment when you realized you needed to create a solution to keep the soap and water out of the engine bay?

Amora: Oh yes, there was a aha moment, and I will get calls and emails from our fellow C8 owners with the same aha! Moment. I always had my dealership wash my C8, but one Saturday evening, with a hot night out and a desire to show off my pristine 2020 coupe, I took matters into my own hands, I washed my C8! My neighbor recommended the two-bucket wash method, which I followed meticulously. However, upon opening the hatch to admire my engine bay – normally a showpiece on the C8 – I was horrified. It was awash in soapy water! My beautiful engine, meant to be showcased, was soaked. Twenty minutes later, I was still drying and detailing, running late for my dinner reservation.

The next day, I discovered online that I wasn’t alone. Other C8 owners were reporting the same soapy mess after washing. Determined to find a solution, I experimented. My first attempt involved cutting rubber mats from Lowe’s – not ideal. Then came the Saran Wrap and Play-Doh fiasco – a sticky disaster. Finally, I took my rubber cutouts to a local fabrication shop in Indianapolis. The owner suggested laser measuring the vent wells for a perfect fit. And that’s how the C8 DRY BAY VENT BLOCKS were born.

We laser-measured the vent wells to an incredibly precise tolerance – within four human hairs! Realizing the potential, I created my website. I connected with Mike Brink, Brink of Speed. and Mike tested the C8 Blocks and agreed it was a solution. Mike stated, 1000s of C8 Corvette OWNERS have BEGGED me for THIS Product!

The positive reviews poured in, validating my solution. What started as a personal quest to protect my own C8 has now become a thriving business, even though it’s not my primary occupation.

Keith: Why are you so adamant about customers buying directly from you or your distributors?

Amora: We’ve recently discovered counterfeit versions of our C8 DRY BAY VENT BLOCKS being sold online, originating from China. It’s truly disheartening to see fellow C8 owners potentially misled. As the creator and a fellow C8 owner, this product was born from a genuine desire to enhance our shared passion. We made a conscious decision to manufacture our C8 DRY BAY VENT BLOCKS right here in the USA, working with a trusted machine shop in Indianapolis, Indiana, despite the availability of less expensive Chinese options. Supporting American craftsmanship was, and remains, paramount. These counterfeit products simply do not meet our stringent standards, both in quality and in the personalized customer service I pride myself on providing. I genuinely value the relationships I build with my buyers, and I stand behind my product – always replacing a block, no questions asked.

Let’s be honest, I don’t just sell C8 DRY BAY VENT BLOCKS, I build relationships. And sometimes, those relationships involve some… interesting situations. I genuinely enjoy connecting with my customers, especially when unexpected things happen. If your dog, for example, decides that two of your blocks are the perfect chew toys, well, I’ve seen it happen. I’ll gladly send you replacements, and we can share a laugh about your four-legged critic. Maybe just send me a picture of the culprit, for… posterity. But seriously, if you ever need anything, even if it’s just a story to share, don’t hesitate to reach out. To ensure you receive the genuine, high-quality product, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions. I’m always happy to help verify your purchase and ensure you’re working with one of my four authorized distributors.

Keith: “So, I’m hearing whispers of… comic strips? Are you seriously turning our C8 adventures into the funny pages?”

Amora: Absolutely! Think of it as therapy, but with punchlines. We’ve enlisted the legendary Jerry King, a guy who’s probably drawn more cartoons than most of us have changed our oil. He’s going to be capturing the sheer, unadulterated hilarity of owning a C8, and of course, the C8 DRY BAY VENT BLOCKS. Get ready for some serious belly laughs. And listen up, folks! You’re all co-writers on this project. Send me your wildest C8 stories, your most embarrassing garage mishaps – anything that screams ‘comic strip gold!’ We’re turning our shared obsession into a masterpiece of mirth!

Keith: Where can our readers get their own set of C8 DRY BAY VENT BLOCKS?

Amora: Just go to www.c8blocks.com, You can use a credit card, PayPal, or Apple Pay, Google Pay. I have stock, this is my third year selling to my Fellow C8 Owners, so I know to have about 1000 sets ready for spring days.

Keith: Any final thoughts you’d like to share with our C8 Corvette community?

Amora: “I want to express how much I’ve enjoyed being a part of our wonderful Corvette community. We’re a strong, faith-filled, and patriotic group, and I’m so grateful for that. One of the greatest joys has been receiving phone calls from fellow C8 owners. We can chat for an hour, sharing stories and laughter, and always end our conversations feeling like we’ve made a genuine connection. It’s been such a privilege to learn about so many of you. While the C8 DRY BAY VENT BLOCKS have turned into a small business, it’s really about the people for me, because this is not what I do for a living. And because of the valuable feedback and concerns I’ve heard from so many of you, I’m excited to share that I’m working on bringing a few more products to market for our beloved C8s. Stay tuned for more updates!”

Keith: Amora, thank you so much for sharing your story and your innovative product with us. We’re excited to see the positive impact the DRY BAY VENT BLOCKS will have on the C8 ownership experience.

  1. My opinion,
Chevy should have designed the entire rear compartment drip free with channels all around the edges collecting the water to run away from the engine. I know it is harder to do with rear engine cooling vents but other mid-engine cars don’t have all this water dripping on the engine as the C8’s do. I own a Lotus Evora and even when the rear lid is opened, the water drips in channels all around the engine compartment. Chevy needs to redesign the entire rear compartment with better drip free cooling vents, just learn from other mid-engine cars. Owners shouldn’t have to buy after market shields just to wash the cars or worry about driving their car in the rain and then having to clean the engine bay, especially when they have ordered the upgraded engine cover options.

  2. China doing what China does best…stealing our designs and making cheap knock-offs. Is anyone surprised??

BTW, 50 bucks and my left nut says this issue is fixed in the C9…they’ll add water channels or place the vents where water can’t contact the engine.

  3. FYI: Patents-individuals who invent things want to protect their inventions from any unauthorized distribution or use. Under federal patent laws, patents are provided to inventors to exclude other parties from “making, using, offering for sale or selling the invention” in the United States. Typically, patents exist for twenty years.

PS Please contact a Patent Attorney to fill you in?

    Thanks,
    Ray
