The same person has owned this 1966 Corvette Sting Ray coupe since he bought it from the original owner in 1970, but time has caught up with him now and he’s parting with his vintage C2.
Bids are being accepted for the next five days on Bring a Trailer, where the current offer is $50,000.
The car – one of the 9,958 coupes built that year, compared to the much more popular 17,762 convertibles – reportedly underwent a restoration around 2000, when the original Silver Pearl paint was redone in the same shade. A quarter of a century later, it still looks pretty good, other than a few minor blemishes that are documented in photos with the listing.
We spotted this car on Bring a Trailer, where the listing says the car has the 327/300 V8 engine, though the decal on the breather indicates that it’s a 327/350. Perhaps someone out there in internetland can clarify this discrepancy. The engine is connected to a Muncie M20 four-speed manual transmission that was a $184.35 option.
Not many options were selected by the original owner, who did choose a Positraction rear axle for $42.15, tinted windshield for $10.55, pushbutton AM/FM radio for $199.10 (though it’s been replaced by an aftermarket system now but the original is included with the sale)., and 775×15.2 tires for $46.35. It all added up to a final MSRP of $4,919.25. The original tires, of course, have been replaced with BFGoodrich Silvertown Radial Gold-Stripes.
A plaque on the ignition shielding documents the installation of an Iskenderian Racing camshaft at some point, and the car was recently serviced and the carburetor rebuilt in anticipation of the auction.
The black vinyl interior looks very nice against the silver exterior, with the seat covers, dash, and carpeting in good shape. All the gauges and lights are said to work, including the headlight buckets, but the original clock is inoperable.
The new owner will also get an NCRS shipping data report that indicates the car was built on April 27, 1966 and delivered to Sacramento Motor Company in Alamagordo, New Mexico after being purchased through a sister dealership in Los Angeles. Also included will be a copy of the window sticker, spare parts, and a clean California title.
The seller terms this ’66 “overall a very nice driver quality” Corvette. Do you agree?

Unless the factory intake manifold has been painted it is probably a 300 horse 327. The L-79 had an aluminum high rise. I wouldn’t think that it was the base 250 horse as they weren’t very popular.. My first Vette was a same color ’65 L-79 roadster.
❤️👍👍
Charles — 300hp and 350hp were the only 327s that were available in Corvettes in 1966. This 327 does appear to have started life with 300hp.
Also, In 66 a 350 hp 327 did not have an engine identification sticker on the air filter cover.
That is correct. They were the same as my ’65 L-79 and had the horsepower sticker on the valve cover.
