A new owner will soon be rolling down the road in this beautiful 1962 fuel-injected Corvette convertible that was first refurbished in 2013 and again in 2022.
The result is a nice-looking representative of the model year that closed out the first generation and represented the end of the solid axles.
The car, purchased in April 2023 on Bring a Trailer by the current owner, is being offered again out of Pennsylvania on the same auction site – this time at no reserve. The current bid has hit $48,500, with five more days of activity still to be seen.
According to the listing, this Corvette still has its numbers-matching 327 V8 engine, mated with a four-speed manual transmission. With a high-lift camshaft, it was rated at 360 horsepower back in the day and is one of just 1,918 Corvettes with that optional powerplant that was a $484.20 option at a time when the entire car started out at $4,038 – nearly 10 percent of the MSRP.
Back in 2013, the car received a new paint job in white, along with a new red interior and black convertible top that now has a minor flaw on the rear left side. Otherwise, it still looks to be in great shape.
After that work a dozen years ago, the Rochester mechanical fuel-injection unit and the cylinder heads were overhauled in 2022.
While you might have thought everyone would have been waiting to get the new ’63 Sting Ray, sales of the ’62 exploded to their highest level to that point, with 14,531 convertibles built at the St. Louis factory.
