From the reveal of Car and Driver’s 2025 10Best List to gauntlet-throwing domestic ‘Ring times, it’s been a genuine automotive 12 days of Christmas content around here, and today’s car media Advent Calendar has produced the best prize yet! The ‘net’s greatest drag racing series is back, and once again, it has our favorite car along for the ride!
Edmunds U-Drags has made a name for itself in Corvette circles by constantly pitting different versions of America’s Sports Car up against all comers – and sometimes each other – in the ultimate one-take test encompassing a standing drag race, braking, a high-g 180 skidpad, and a roll race back to the start/finish line!
Today’s challenger is the new second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT, now sporting a “63” badge and sharing a platform with the new seventh-generation (R232) SL Class convertible. Compared to its bespoke predecessor, the handsome new GT has ballooned 6.7 inches in length, 1.8 inches in width, and 2.8 inches in height while packing on an extra 546 pounds. This new model checks in right around 4,240 lbs. and is motivated by the firm’s familiar 4.0L twin-snail V8 that makes a likely underrated 577 ponies and ‘Vette-slappin’ 590 lb-ft of twist in this application. Off the line, it counters its mass by sending juice to all four driven wheels (also a departure from the original GT) and always staying in the meat of its torque curve with nine forward gears.
Representing the Stars and Stripes this time around is the 670-horse Z06 enjoying its last few days as the Alpha Dog of the Corvette lineup before being unquestionably usurped by the monster twin-turbo ZR1. Edmunds previous Z06 was a Hypersonic Gray ’23 model with the Z07 track package that may have hindered its straight-line performance a bit. For this season, they’ve procured a Rapid Blue ’24 with the standard aero package, no carbon fiber wheels, and the base PS 4 S Michelins that add a fun wrinkle to this video! The sky-blue Z isn’t just racing the AMG here; it’s gunning for the Z07’s time!
So, the $211,810 AMG brings a torque advantage and AWD into the ring, while as tested, the $147,800 Z checks in at 3,715 lbs., giving it a vast 5.54 to 7.34 lead in weight-to-power ratio. We don’t play spoiler on these things, but even though Eddie’s has the formula down to a science at this point, the rundown of the video is as follows: three minutes of background are followed by the first race that sees Edmunds shoe Jonathan Elfalan – in a sweet Saturn (LLC) hat – start behind the wheel of the 8,600 rpm American while his lanky Red Coat counterpart Alister Weaver pilots the Merc. At 7:08, they switch cars and run again, followed by recaps, leaderboards, and in-depth discussion about the two high-dollar combatants. Enjoy this one, Corvette Nation!

Nice
Cool video!
Given the weights and power, the Vette should have won by much more.
