This ’72 Corvette is all about an early morning Saturday drive as the sun is coming up – and savoring every second of the driving experience.
That’s the way one person describes this beautifully done Stingray coupe being offered on Bring a Trailer.
The high bid is only $15,000 but the final offer is sure to climb much higher over the next 5+ days.
Coming of age in the ’70s, when cars like this were very rarely grand prizes on game shows, much to a teenage enthusiast’s delight, this now-senior blogger first fell in serious love with chrome-bumper Corvettes just like this one. But we have a feeling that this Targa Blue Corvette checks all the right boxes for plenty of you out there, regardless of age.
After all, in September 2023, this car received a prestigious Top Flight award from the National Corvette Restorers Society.
But more importantly to many enthusiasts is the 454 V8 engine still growling from under the hood, a drivetrain made even more enticing by the four-speed manual transmission and Positraction limited-slip differential mated to it.
While changes in the way horsepower was rated happened in ’72, the engines were still basically the same as in ’70 and ’71. This ’72 was rated at 270 horsepower (down from the 365 the year before) and 390 lb-ft of torque, but it still should provide plenty of thrills on the road.
That is, if the new owner isn’t afraid to risk damage out there in the real world, because of the ultra-low 12,000+ miles showing on the odometer, a figure that the seller says he cannot verify.
The black leather interior with optional deluxe woodgrain door panels and center console looks to be in show condition, and based on several of the photos with the listing, the car has indeed been impressively displayed on the show circuit.
One more notable photo is the one that shows the T-tops attached to the optional luggage rack. It’s been a while since we’ve seen the rack in actual use, so that was nice to see.
After buying the car in 2019, the seller went on to spend more than $1,200 correcting a few of the common trouble areas, like the headlights and windshield wipers, along with the alternator, starter, carburetor, ignition, wire harness, vacuum harness, vacuum pods, belts, hoses, and clamps. The paint is said to have been redone at some time in the past, though the listing doesn’t say when.
Other features of this classic C3 include 15-inch Rally wheels, disc brakes, power steering, alarm system, air conditioning, power windows, and AM/FM stereo radio.
The new owner will receive NCRS judging documents, including the Top Flight certificate and judging guide, a Shipping Data report that shows initial delivery to Williams Chevrolet in Colorado Springs, and service records.
