We tell you all the time about Corvettes that have been neglected in storage for decades.
This 1958 Corvette claims to be different. While the owner says it’s been stored in a garage for the past 30 years, he adds that the car has still been maintained during its lengthy respite.
Now, he’s putting the triple red roadster (including hardtop) on the market, with an asking price of $69,500 on Craigslist out of the Glenview, Illinois area.
That price seems a mite high to us, as the “period-correct” language used to describe the engine seems to indicate that the 283 isn’t the original numbers-matching unit.
Still, the owner indicates that the car runs and drives well and has had “very little modifications” since being built at the St. Louis factory some 66 years ago. The ’58, of course, marked the introduction of dual headlights and chrome spears on the trunk lid.
As the Corvette morphed from its early years of being offered only with automatic transmissions, this one represents the growing shift toward the more performance-oriented four-speed manual by 1958 when nearly 40 percent were ordered that way.
It’s not always easy to tell the condition of a car’s paint from looking at a collection of photos, and this one is no exception. Overall, it looks shiny enough but the seller does admit that it shows some age but “overall is solid.”
At the asking price, if a new owner has to apply a new paint job for show status, it wouldn’t take long for the overall investment to approach the century mark.

IMHO this Vette is worth about $45,000 to $50,000 in todays market. All the rubber most likely needs replacing and any rubber in the suspension system probably needs replacing.Plus who knows what. But there seems to be buyers that will overpay for what they want.
At a generous $3800 price in 1958, adjusted for inflation this car would be worth $43-44,000 in 2024 dinero in brand new condition.
Chaz and Dan are dreaming! The car will fetch 60k not everyone needs to drive a trailer queen show car, and many actually want to drive their cars without worrying about a cloud in the sky!
Everyone loves to hack on a Corvettes value number, but I’ve been watching prices for 25 years and they keep going up. The only people I know that say they’re going down is the jealous non owners, and the screw someone out of a car, flipper.
