The guys at Barn Finds, where we spotted this 1966 Corvette coupe for sale through eBay, wonder if it might represent the start of a new trend.
Based on the avid enthusiasm of many of our readers for their classic ICE cars, we doubt many of you would be willing to part with your gasoline-powered Sting Ray to make way for a new electric vehicle arriving soon.
But every person’s priorities and circumstances are prone to change. After all, when the owner of this Corvette first bought it in 2012, we doubt if the idea of an EV in his garage had entered his mind.
Now, though, he says his garage must be emptied to allow for his new EV so he has put his black on black Sting Ray up for sale out of Los Altos, California with a Buy It Now price of $69,000 or best offer.
That seems reasonable enough for a beautiful C2 that seems to us to be in excellent condition inside and out.
Indeed, the previous owner repainted the car Tuxedo Black before selling it, though some purists may be upset that he changed the color from the original shade of Mosport Green. Since the current owner has since stored the car in a garage, underneath a cover, and has driven it just 100 to 300 miles a year in Northern California, he says the condition of the paint remains in “excellent” shape.
While the car was being professionally repainted, the interior was also changed from green to a more complementary black. Like the exterior, the interior still looks very nice.
As for the engine, the matching-numbers 327/300 horsepower V8 was rebuilt by the previous owner. The current owner says he subsequently had the distributor rebuilt due to play in the original shaft and breaker plate, “helping the engine run almost like new” these days.
Likewise, the four-speed manual transmission is said to shift “smoothly” between all of the gears.
Also included with the sale is the original radio that is operational along with many tune up parts.
So, fellow enthusiasts, do you ever see the day when your own Corvette will be booted out of your garage in favor of an EV?

Might as well get neutered also…
The owner simply has different needs. The C2 Corvette is wonderful as a classic collectable but they don’t drive all that well, do not work as a daily driver, won’t work on long road trips.
On the other hand, depending on Tesla he chooses he will have a car that’s significantly faster, more comfortable, safer, able to do anything you want. Just won’t look as cool. I might add, the Tesla will cost significantly less to power with almost no maintenance. They are really wonderful cars to drive and own. Save the gasoline for the cool cars,
I’ve owned several Corvettes including a Z06 and currently own a Tesla. Will never go back to gas vehicles for daily transportation. To each their own, don’t knock something you really don’t understand. At the same time, I sure would love owning his C2 for the occasional Sunday drive.
