[STOLEN] Texas Police Busts a Major Luxury Car Theft Ring and Recovers a Stolen C8 Corvette

It all started last year when police in North Texas noticed an increase in car thefts from public parking lots that quickly escalated into a sophisticated operation that ultimately resulted in hundreds of people losing more than $9 million worth of luxury vehicles, including at least one C8 Corvette.

Now, a year-long investigation by the Grapevine, Texas Police Department in cooperation with other area law enforcement agencies has resulted in the arrests of seven young men, members of what authorities termed a prolific car theft ring responsible for more than 200 auto thefts across North Texas, including Irving, Addison, Grand Prairie, Euless and Dallas.

“The investigation went wide open last fall,” Grapevine Police Officer Amanda McNew said. “Essentially, we have been trying to catch this group since 2022.”

Police arrested Henry Actwood Jr., Dylan Correa, Gavin Correa, Cristian Morel, Jeremiah Morel, Kevin Oates Jr. and Jose Perez.

They say the theft ring targeted luxury vehicles and then resold them in the area, other states, and even Mexico. The high-tech investigation used surveillance video, cell phone records, and Flock cameras to track the suspects back to two homes in Dallas County.

Police say Perez even used social media to post photos of the cars, just days before a SWAT team raided his home in Garland. After the raid, a neighbor sent Fox4 KDFW News a photo of Perez’s open garage, with an Arctic White C8 Corvette and a white Lamborghini still inside.

Police also say the ring would sometimes meet at the home of Jeremiah Morel, who by himself is believed to be responsible for more than 50 car thefts since January this year.

At the time of their arrests, some of the suspects had active armed robbery and evading arrest warrants from other cities like Richardson and Dallas.

“The more we can do to stop things like this and (remove) the bad out of our community, the better,” McNew said.
