Is it or isn’t it?
As the owner of this 1954 Corvette says, “I have no reason to doubt it is anything other than a black 54.”
If his second-year Corvette did indeed originally leave the St. Louis factory with a fresh coat of black paint, it would be one of only four produced in that shade, with the vast majority of the 3,640 built sticking with the tried-and-true Polo White introduced in ’53.
Now this classic C1 is up for sale on Craigslist out of the Huntsville, Alabama area, with an “extremely firm” price of $75,000 and he’s not interested in any trades.
“Before you NCRS super geniuses get started, you can’t prove it isn’t a ‘real’ black car, and I can’t prove it is,” the seller points out in his listing.
Regardless of the originality, the current combination of black paint accented by a beige soft top and red interior adds up to a very sharp C1, in our opinion.
This Corvette remains in “great condition for a 70-year-old Corvette,” the seller writes, adding that it “starts and drives nice.” The car’s Blue Flame Six engine produced 150 to 155 horsepower, depending on when it was built as a camshaft design change upped output during the model year.
While it’s admittedly not a 100-point NCRS trailer queen right now, he believes his Corvette “could be” with a little work but candidly adds “that’s not me.”
He suggests contacting him and seeing the car in person before making up your mind one way or the other.

Great looking Corvette and it would be really cool paired with a black ’55 T’bird – my two favorites as a kid.
