Executive Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter is retiring after 47 years at GM, and now General Motors has named his replacement. Tony Roma, who currently serves as the Chief Engineer for the Cadillac CELESTIQ, has been named Executive Chief Engineer for the newly formed Global Corvette and Performance Cars team. He will officially assume the position effective July 1st.

Roma will also assume leadership of the Luxury and Performance Car team currently led by Brandon Vivian who has been moved to the Advanced Vehicle Development Center as Executive Chief Engineer and Brand Strategy Coordination.

“Tony is a natural fit to succeed Tadge, as well as the perfect choice to lead our new Global Corvette and Performance Cars team, given his many years working on Corvette powertrains and his more recent experience with the Cadillac V-Series, Blackwing and CELESTIQ,” said GM President Mark Reuss. “The bar is set very high for Corvette. Tony knows that, and he’s more than up to the challenge; he was made for this moment. I see a great future for Corvette and the other vehicles that Tony’s team will create.”

During his 30 years at GM, Tony has spent time working on Corvettes and numerous Cadillacs including CTS, ATS and CELESTIQ. His work on the V-Series and then Blackwing has distinguished Cadillac as a serious luxury performance contender.

Tony has had a passion for autos since he was young, and his claim to fame is that his first words were “blue nova” upon seeing his mother’s blue 1970 Chevy Nova. “My dad is the catalyst here. He always had a love for cars and owned so many cool ones while I was growing up,” he said.

His household today has multiple vehicles, including notable Corvette models like the C4 ZR1, C6 ZR1, C8 Z06 and, he hopes, the upcoming C8 ZR1. He also owns a CTS-V Wagon.

As an owner of multiple Corvettes, he knows what is at stake with his return to lead the helm of America’s Favorite Sports Car.

“As a car enthusiast and racer, I feel a strong connection to the whole Corvette team and our fans around the world,” Roma said. “I have been a part of just about every event our customers bring their cars to: road racing, auto cross, road rally, cross country adventure, car shows, drag racing and more. I know that for the car to be successful, it needs to resonate with the end customer and be good at what they want it to do.”

Tony’s credentials are impressive, and the folks we’ve reached out to have all said very good things. We like the fact that Tony also drives the cars as he is a GM Level 6 Driver, the company’s highest rating, and he is certified to drive the Nurburgring in Germany during Industry Pool test days. In fact, he has logged more than 1,500 laps at the Nurburgring, and recently participated in the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nurburgring race.

Welcome home, Tony!
