Corvettes for Sale: These 1:12 Scale Models are Meant for the Corvette Enthusiast

Many model making firms have come and gone. Unfortunately, one of those casualties was the Franklin Mint. The Franklin Mint produced collectible vehicles, coins, chess sets and many other items and typically, these were made from pewter, silver or bronze. The Corvettes pictured are made of pewter, weigh over 15 pounds each and came in velvet lined boxes with painted wood plinths making their display a focal point of any office or man cave. These were priced at $1,000 and only 1,000 of each model were made. The two pictured here are the only Corvettes- a 1957 “Fuelie” and a 1963 Split-Window Stingray. Additional models included a Cobra 427 S/C and a Cobra Daytona Coupe. To round out the collection, a Delahaye 135 and a Mercedes 300 SL Roadster were also offered. All sold out and a new model was released every six months for a few years in the early 2000s.

Additionally, another player was GMP. They specialized in highly detailed models of all sizes and types. The Corvette C5R pictured here was driven by Dale Earnhardt Senior and Junior at the 24 Hours of Daytona. This model is highly detailed and is in the original boxes. It came with gloves for handling, jacks, removable hood, rear cowl and wheels. Look closely, and you can see the water jug for the driver and the sponsor decals! These sold for over $500 new.

If you are looking for these rare collectibles note that 1:18 versions are out there for less money but the 1:12 size makes them a standout piece for your collection. These are for sale starting at $600. Inquire at [email protected].

  1. Maybe about 20 years ago I bought a Franklin Mint Orange 1969 427 Corvette Stingray Coupe model. It’s one of my most prized Corvette models. It was discontinued years ago and I wouldn’t sell it for no amount of money now.

  2. Danbury Mint also stopped their diecast model lines several years ago.

I have many of their cars in 1/24th, 31 Corvettes and 87 other classic cars, and also 3 1/12th Corvettes.
