Only a few minor known items remain for a new owner to address on this 1971 Corvette that still has its numbers-matching L48 engine in place.

This Ontario Orange “cream puff,” as the owner describes it, is being offered on Corvette Forum out of the Hico, Texas area, where the asking price is $35,000. He’ll even deliver the car at no extra charge if you live within 100 miles of his house.

Cosmetically, the paint looks great and has even been professionally ceramic-coated with GTECHNIQ’s Crystal Serum Ultra, with seven years remaining on the transferrable warranty.

Unfortunately, no photos of the Dark Saddle interior are included with the listing, but we wouldn’t anticipate any problems based on the car’s trophy win in a Corvette World Dallas car show.

The original engine, which underwent a Quadra-Jet overhaul by Lars Grimsrud in September 2020, “runs great,” according to the seller, who adds that the brakes, trailing arms, and birdcage are in “good” condition. A Vintage Air climate control system has already been fitted, and new weatherstripping was installed in October 2018, when the speedometer/tachometer were also rebuilt. Total mileage is unknown, but the car has been driven 7,000 miles during the seller’s ownership.

The owner says he knows of only three issues with this Stingray, including a dripping transmission after shutdown. He’s had to add a quart of transmission fluid since buying the car in 2018. Two other minor problems include a vacuum leak in either the wiper sled or headlights he hasn’t been able to locate and has instead installed a shutoff valve and a leak in the left bank valve stem seals when the engine is cold, but less than a quart has to be added per 5,000-mile oil change.

He plans to take his car, known affectionately as “Victoria,” to the University of Texas Orange/White game, and she’ll be entered into the Cars/Wings show at the Georgetown, Texas airport Saturday, Feb. 24 for in-person inspection.

  1. An Ontario Orange C3 just like this was the kind of Corvette I dreamed of one day owning when I was a kid. A neighbor who lived behind us when I was growing up had one and he took me for a ride in it. I was thrilled!

  2. It’s no doubt a nice car but it doesn’t get to me like the previous generation. I don’t even require a split rear window with mine if there ever came a time when I could pick one up.
