Corvettes for Sale: Barn Find 1963 Corvette Convertible in Daytona Blue on eBay

Did you ever wonder if the folks who bought a new convertible Sting Ray back in 1963 regretted years later not getting a split-window coupe with all the eventual hoopla over what turned into a one-year-only body design?

Maybe such “buyer’s remorse” is why this ’63 Sting Ray barn find being offered on eBay has been off the road since 1996.

That’s surely not the case, but failing to drive this first-year C2 for nearly three decades certainly did help keep it safe from the ravages of the highway for a potential owner in 2024, didn’t it?

Back in the day, the divide between coupes and convertibles was nearly 50/50 – with 10,919 convertibles and 10,594 coupes built at the St. Louis factory for ’63. Keep in mind this was the first year ever for a closed-body coupe for the Corvette, so we’re sure there were probably naysayers who didn’t think it was a “real” Corvette because it didn’t have an open top. Maybe some of our readers can remember that far back and let us know what they remember buyers saying in ’63.

Anyway, this car isn’t original anymore, with a replacement 327 block under the hood, so that means it could head off in a million different directions as a stock restoration or a crazy resto-mod. Indeed, the seller terms it “a very easy project” car that is “very clean and solid.”

Moreover, a new owner could immediately enjoy the car while he tackles a project at a time since it “runs and drives well,” according to the seller.

Some work has already been done, with an all-new exhaust said to have been installed. He says the undercarriage is “super clean” with “no sign of any damage” and is “rust free.”

The “super straight” body “with no bondo” started out with black paint, but it’s been changed over the years to navy blue. A factory hardtop that looks black in a photo is also included with the sale.

The black interior may not be perfect, but we’ve seen lots worse. It could easily be spruced up with readily available aftermarket parts, but already looks acceptable as a driver until the new owner decides to tackle that project.

“This is the way you want to find a Corvette convertible – super straight rust free, California black plate, low mileage, unmolested and unrestored,” the seller believes.

Right now, the high bid has hit $30,188, with a “Buy It Now” price of $47,000. The auction comes to a close on Thursday at 5:36 p.m.

Would you pony up and pay the BIN ahead of time to ensure this vintage Sting Ray winds up in your garage or skip ahead to the next car?
