The new owner of this 1961 Corvette being offered on Bring a Trailer will just have to climb behind the wheel and take off to new adventures, if he likes.
So far, interest has been high in the car, with the high bid already reaching $53,000 with five days to go. Bidders might want to consider the $1,495 document fee being charged by the seller.
This vintage C1 Corvette appears to have already undergone a massive amount of work in the last few years, including the recent installation of a 383 stroker V8 connected to a four-speed manual transmission. The engine includes an aluminum intake manifold, a four-barrel carburetor, an HEI distributor, Edelbrock finned valve covers, and coated exhaust headers.
Other mechanical updates include the installation of Wilwood front disc brakes (with rear drums), a Hurst shifter, 17-inch and 18-inch U.S. Mags inside BFGoodrich g-Force Comp-2 tires, and a Vintage Air climate control system. These modern A/C systems aren’t cheap, but they definitely make old cars like the 1970 Monte Carlo I once owned much more bearable in the hot Georgia summer heat.
Cosmetic upgrades include a slick candy red paint job with silver coves, along with a new black vinyl interior, and the underside looks like new, too. The car also includes a black canvas top and a candy red removable hardtop.
The ‘61s – with 10,939 convertibles produced at the St. Louis factory – featured an exterior facelift, with the swoopy four taillight rear end design foreshadowing the upcoming C2 Sting Ray’s. It was also the first Corvette without the “teeth” in the grille.
