GM Started Producing a Brand New type of Corvette this Week

We’ve got E-Rays on the mind this week after seeing that the Corvette Assembly Plant would start to ramp up production of the performance hybrid sports car this week. By Friday morning, we saw that three customer cars had off the line during the week, and there could be more depending on what was finished during Friday’s shifts.

Talking with a Chevy rep this week, he tells me that people aren’t exactly beating down his door to get one, and based on the comments that this post will surely generate here and on social media, it seems this may be one of the most misunderstood Corvettes ever to be produced.

Our friend Mike from the Brink of Speed YouTube channel has a new video out on the subject and he does a nice job in addressing some of these points. One of his solutions that we agree with is for Chevy to get out as many as possible, as quickly as possible to create buzz and get enthusiasts talking.

  1. Sorry,I’m an old school gear head and bought my 2023 HTC Z51 70th. as it was apparent it might be the last true ICE Corvette. Just not a fan of electric motors no matter how fast they can go or how much horsepower they produce. My Z sounds great, runs great, and I’m no fan of whirrrrrr.

  2. Well since the retards at GM decided no more Camaro’s which means the Vette is the only performance car they offer now, pretty god damn sad. I suppose the Caddies with the BlackWing motors should be included. GM can’t even keep up production and have some of the worst parts suppliers out there. They over price everything and are just not doing a great job of anything these days, bums me out. Not ready for to many EV options.

  3. I’ve already been contacted by my dealer to put my order in, but they didn’t have the wheels I wanted available, so I passed. I am definitely not a fan of electric vehicles, but I like the fact that this is a very fast and versatile car. I will never take it to a track, but driving the mountain roads around me sure will be fun and there would be a much lower chance of running out of gas out in the boonies than I’d face with a Z06

  4. This E-Ray garbage is nothing but NEGLECT. Thousands of Z06 customers (me included) have been waiting for their vehicles over 2 years and GM just continues to skip right over those orders.
How can they consciously turn their attention to E-Ray? And leave us twiddling our thumbs with no explanation, no communication no nothing…
    Blatant Mismanagement!!!!

  5. So now we’re finding out that so far Corvette fans aren’t lining up around the block to buy an E-Ray. If I could afford an E-Ray, it should as hell wouldn’t be the C8 I would buy. It would be a Z06 all the way!

  6. Try this again. Meant to say sure as hell wouldn’t be the C8 I would buy. (Drank too much tonight).

  7. What the hell is going on with GM management. Why would they introduce a new corvette variant like the E-Ray when there are thousands of customers ( myself included ) waiting on the Z06. I have been on a reservation list with my dealership since April 2022. I was told in January 2024 that it might be 2026 before I actually take delivery of this car due to production / supply issues with GM. So 4 years to get my Z06, but GM is going to make a brand new Corvette like the E-Ray and leave thousands of customers in limbo on the Z06 … go figure. I guess GM management doesn’t care about there customers.

  8. Wtf is Robert trying to say? I would happily take delivery of any corvette products currently in market or planned to be. But I would really love a Z06 in the rear (mid) with electric motors up front (200hp a piece) totalling some where in the 1100+ region. Pretty pretty plz

  9. Corvette was a brand that was attainable by many people. Now GM is focused on the Porsche type potential customers with gobs of money derived from the Federal Reserve’s reckless and purposeful creating currency out of thin air.

  10. Forget the electric junk they will be yelling for a bail out once the idiots see that people are not going to have this garbage crammed down their throat will never even consider buying one walking ain’t crowded

  11. There were still people lined up at the “Big Dealers” to get on the ERay lists by hey glad that demand is down… means getting one will be easier for me.

If this car delivers what it’s promising (which all reviewers have gushed over), it’s going to be an incredible performance / ownership experience and a piece of Corvette history. I’m in!

  12. No thanks … ur not gonna catch me standin an hour and a charging station…not to mention “they” will now be able to.limit your travel etc based on bs climate change..control ur life change.. no thanks

  13. To Wlly Wonks, The Motor Trend article said this is not a plug in vehicle—it’s truly a hybrid—the ICE and the electric motors work in conjunction with one another.

  14. Corvette was a brand that was attainable by many people. Well said RC! My 2019 Singray 2LT
was attainable at 59,000 out the door!

  15. Based on the comments here and in person the eRay will never be understood by most. How many times do they have to say that the eRay has the exact same gasoline engine as the base model but with an extra 160 hp from an electric motor?

Its like getting a Grand Sport but instead of just the wide body and looks you get actual extra performance. In some ways more than the Z06 as its faster off the line. But just mention the electric motor and there is instant hate.

Hybrids have a massive image problem. People who want pure EVs hate them and people who want pure gasoline hate them. There is a reason GM has not leaned into hybrids even though all cars should at least be hydrids.

  16. Any new production of Corvettes is good not only for Consumers/Car Enthusiasts like 👍 MY SELF!! It is good for the sports exotic car industry ( PERFORMANCE, PERFECTION IS KEY 🔑 TO SUCCESS ) !!

  17. I’m waiting for the 2025 Corvette SUV!! I’m all about BREAKING BARRIERS, HINDERANCES, RULES!! LET CREATIVITY FLOW ITS OWN COURSE!! NOTHING BEATS A FAILURE!! YOU HAVE TO AT LEAST TRY AND TAKE CHANCES!!

  18. I am a car enthusiast in general. Admittedly i hated the c8 when it first debuted. I felt it was blasphemy to make a corvette mid-engine. Since driving several of them its grown on me tremendously. I think the e-ray honestly makes more sense than the purely v8 versions. Corvette went mid-engine to revolutionize the concept of what a mainstream American sportscar could be, and they succeeded. However, I am a purist and I still grunt at having tonaccept that front engine vettes are now gone for good, but the e-ray is not only the neccessary evolution, but as a Midwesterner I truly appreciate AWD now showing up in weekend toy.

  19. No No No that’s it I’m done with all this ev junk solar panels or whatever epa going buy real horse that’s considered real horse power and become Amish Idiocracy is just to rapid

  20. I only like sports cars, muscle.. I’ve read articles electric is not more reliable. No V8 sound= not sport or muscle…I’ll give you 30,000$ max..come to think of it give me one to test out in one of our crash up derby commotions😁
