[VIDEO] Hennessey Lets The C8 Corvette Z06 off the Chain After Reaching 500 Miles

There are a few remarkable Corvette moments that we’ve all imagined ourselves doing at some point. The guys from Hennessey Performance were recently kind enough to capture one of the moments that has been keeping our respective imaginations in high gear for the past year. The famed Texas tuners have been building towards making one of their signature upgrade packages for the new flat-plane Z06. While we have our doubts about anyone’s ability to complete HPE’s chosen mission, their process of breaking in a factory-fresh example and putting it through its paces has already paid dividends.

The newest fruit born of this journey is the moment we’ve envisioned for ourselves, and it has to be one of the most gratifying single seconds of any automotive ownership experience! When the video begins, Hennessey’s stock test car was sitting at 499 miles, just one shy of GM’s prescribed “Street Break-In.” Next, we get to ride along as the test driver, and his co-worker search for the mechanical green light to explore that comes at 500, but when the magic number appears on the digital odometer, a funny thing happens: there’s no change! The most amusing minute in tuner video history (pretty low bar, here, if we’re honest) that includes one of SpongeBob’s iconic time cards and some 4x speed LT6 action passes by, and the fairy-tale hammer drop moment actually passes by while the guys with one of the coolest jobs in the world are turning around on an isolated stretch of road west of Houston. Once they realize that their Z is officially open for business, it’s time for 8,600 rpm madness!

What starts on the street quickly turns to a no-no as they find themselves on a shockingly narrow drag strip – Chevrolet recommends a full 1,500-mile break-in before running on any kind of track, but it’s hard to fault anyone that can’t take any more after exhibiting the superhuman self-control needed to suffer through 500 long miles of low-rev monotony, and it’s just some innocent straight-line stuff anyway!

Scratch that, as that last sentiment was being written in real-time, the HPE fellas ended up on some twisties, and if you thought the strip was thin, wait until you see the tiny ribbons of asphalt in this portion of the clip! All in all, it’s completely worth the for the eight-cylinder payout that our ears are treated to, and it’s not like this is a customer car either, so they can do whatever they want to it. We’re just glad to be along for the ride!
