There’s no doubt the mechanicals of the Corvette have been improving steadily over the years.
Just look at the current C8 for substantiation.
On the other hand, some enthusiasts might argue that the exterior design of the ’63-’67 Sting Rays is so perfect it can’t get any better.
If you like to drive down the middle of the road between classic and modern, then you might want to take a look at this 1963 split-window restomod being offered on Bring a Trailer.
With six days left in the auction, the current bid has climbed to a cool $125,000.
The car underwent a body-off restoration, getting a slick red paint job on the outside, but it’s under that body and inside it that this one really shines.
A 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine has been installed under the hood, and we can hear some of you crying out there because it’s connected to a four-speed automatic transmission. But then again, that’s a plus for folks of a certain age who find it difficult these days to maneuver, say, a five-speed manual Tremec.
Other mechanical improvements done prior to 2020 by Restomodvette of Hudson, Florida include a RideTech suspension system with adjustable coilover shocks, Wilwood disc brakes, staggered-diameter chrome wheels (18s on the front and 19s on the rear), 225/40 front tires and 225/45 rear tires, aluminum radiator, power steering, side exhaust pipes, Lokar shifter, and Restomod Air climate control.
Inside, the car gleams, too, with a custom dipped brown distressed leather interior – with color-coordinated seats (with diamond-quilted center panels), dash, headliner, door panels, center console, and carpet., along with Dakota Digital instruments, Lokar shifter, Budnik steering wheel, carbon-fiber-faced analog clock, and 11-speaker sound system.

I really hope this restoration started with a complete basket case or total-loss donor vehicle. Anyone hacking up a rare, vintage ’63 split window to try to turn it into a modern car it was never supposed to be, wouldn’t want to come across me (or countless other classic collectors) in a dark alley.
