[PICS] Petersen Museum to Present: Corvettes in Competition – Racing America’s Sports Car

In honor of Corvette’s 70th anniversary this year, the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles will open a new exhibit this weekend.

Titled “Corvettes in Competition: Racing America’s Sports Car,” the exhibit will include an exclusive collection of legendary Corvette racing cars over the past 70 years.

Among the cars to be showcased starting at noon Saturday, Aug. 5, will be the following legendary Corvettes:

-1963 Corvette Grand Sport, chassis 004, with a 485-horsepower engine and winner on the competition circuit
-1995 Corvette Callaway LM, winner in the 1996 SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge Series
-2001 Corvette C5.R, which was piloted by legendary NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt and his son, Dale Jr., in the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2001
-2014 Corvette C7.R, with a 575-horsepower engine and class winner at the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring in 2015.

Also to be displayed are the 1956 Corvette SR (aka The Real McCoy), 1960 Corvette Cunningham Le Mans, 1976 Corvette Spirit of Le Mans, 1989 Corvette Challenge C4, and 2006 Corvette C6.R.

Visitors can see the new salute to the Corvette and its racing history either as part of their general admission ticket or their Petersen Museum membership.
