When the 2020 Corvette first made its debut at the end of 2019, the car was an instant sensation and earned more than a few accolades from automotive journalists which gave the mid-engine Corvette its first North American Car of the Year Award. Now, there is another C8 Corvette that has been listed as a candidate for the 2024 NACOTY and it’s not the high-revving Z06.

This year’s North American Car of the Year Award – which is a collaboration between the NACTOY organization and the Detroit Auto Dealers Association – has listed the slate of vehicles that will “compete” to be named Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year and that list includes the 2024 Corvette E-Ray.

Fifty automotive journalists make up the NACTOY jury and they will have the next few weeks to review and test the cars and file their reports back the organization. NACTOY will then choose the semifinalists. This new list is called “The Best of 2024” and it will be announced during the Detroit Auto Show on September 13th.

The finalists for the award will be announced on November 16th at the LA Auto Show and the winners of each category (car, truck, SUV) will be announced at an awards event on January 4, 2024. This will be the 30th anniversary for the honors.

“These awards are special because they represent a cross section of views from fifty top automotive journalists, each of whom look at vehicles from their own personal perspective,” said NACTOY president Jeff Gilbert. “We leverage our own unique processes to come to a consensus that honors the best all new or totally redesigned vehicles in a model year.”

  1. Sorry, no electric car for me. I would never vote for any electric car for an award. I still like the rumble of a V8. I know this administration is trying to convince the public our gas cars are going to kill us, but most of us think his new green deal will cost us and do very little to air quality or the climate.
