[VIDEO] Benchmarking a Twin Turbo C8 Stingray vs the C8 Corvette Z06 with Z07

There’s always a lot going on in a StreetSpeed 717 video but I promise you, no one is jumping any Corvettes in this episode. Instead, Mike helps answer the question we know many Corvette enthusiasts who are facing excessive wait times for the Z06 are grappling with. And that question is can you mod your Stingray to have enough power to outrun the mighty Z06?

While the short answer is always “Yes, with time and money,” Mike heads over to visit Andrew at Complete Street Performance. He was one of the first tuners to add turbos to the C8 Stingray, and his base (Non-Z51) Stingray has twin turbos providing 608 whp. Unfortunately for Andrew, it’s also one of the hottest days of the year and that heat can only benefit the naturally aspirated LT6 vs the “twin heaters” in the Stingray.

But before they get to that challenge, there is some scary video that Mike shares showing Andrew dynoing a Camaro and at the end of the run, it explodes with flames out the bottom of the car and the airbags deploying. So, yeah…there is a bit of destruction happening but you can’t really blame that on Mike.

Camaro blows up on the dyno

So if you want to get to pull section, jump ahead to about 9 minutes in the video to watch the four head-to-head highway pulls. Of course, this isn’t just for Stingray owners as we heard from more than a few prospective E-Ray buyers who are also interested in a turbo/procharger/supercharger set-up to create their own monster AWD Corvette, and now that HP Tuners has cracked the LT2 ECU, it seems like we are soon to enter a tuning bonanza era for the late model Corvettes where anything is possible.

So back to the highway pulls, Mike and Andrew go four times and the first round goes to the Z06 while round two shows the Stingray pulling ahead. Mike says after that race that “the thing with the Z06 is that it’s fast down low but falls off up top.” Number three and four also go to the Z06 but the Stingray is always right there on Mike’s rear corner. Perhaps with some cooler temps the twin-turbo could have done a bit better.

Here is Mike’s after-action report:

“I’m very impressed by the Z because this is the track car, it’s not a straight line car. It’s not really making a ton of power, but it did very well. And I know his car is fast, I know it makes over 600 wheels on a Dyno and that’s going to be pretty much where all of your procharged and twin turbo c8s… that’s going to be the power level where they are. Very impressive for a bone stock and a smaller displacement Z06, for sure!”
