It took this Canadian car enthusiast 40 years to save up enough money to restore his 1963 split-window Corvette Sting Ray.

But George Fedak was finally able to realize his dream in 2016, even winning an award for his beautiful black Corvette at his last car show just before he died Sunday, July 23 at age 86.

Now, his family is asking classic car and motorcycle enthusiasts to join in the funeral procession for Mr. Fedak on Saturday, July 29 at noon from Windsor Chapel funeral home at 3048 Dougall Avenue in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Visitations are planned for Friday, July 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. and at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday at 11 a.m.

“He loved sharing his enthusiasm with his friends and the younger generation,” his daughter, Lori Graham, told CTV News. “That was his thing.”

She said the ’63 Corvette sat in his garage for 40 years as he saved up his dollars to bring the car back to life. “He would put away $5 here, $10 there in an envelope,” she said. “It’s not a cheap car to restore.”

But the wait was worth it. After he and his son pulled it out of the garage and began the restoration in 2008, the Sting Ray was finally restored seven years ago, and he showed it at several car shows, including his last one at the Fogalar Furlan Club, a local banquet facility, where he won “Most Original in Show” honors.

That night, sadly he passed away. Earlier that day, besides winning at the car show, he celebrated his son’s birthday with family, cuddled his dog Gigi, and enjoyed a Western movie before heading to bed.

“He died peacefully in his sleep next to my mom who he’s been with for 65 years,” his daughter said.

“I’m just so thankful and appreciative of all the people over the years who stopped by and talked to my dad,” Graham added. “It just made those car shows extra special for him.”

Our condolences to Mr. Fedak’s family and friends, and we hope a huge crowd of Corvettes and other classic cars and motorcycles turns out for his funeral procession.
