The IndyCars are in Iowa this weekend for a doubleheader weekend of races and there is a C8 Corvette Pace Car that will lead the racers to the green flags. Like we have seen previously, Chevrolet drivers Ryan Hunter-Reay and Rinus Veekay are given the opportunity to run the car around the track and each of the drivers take their turn.
Whereas the last few races featured a Z06 Convertible Pace Car (Indy, Detroit), this Pacer is a 2022 Stingray Convertible in Arctic White and it’s dressed in door decals with the race sponsor Hy-Vee, and it also shows off a Carbon Flash racing stripe with Yellow accent and a STINGRAY banner on the windshield. Inside is the same Sky Cool Gray/Shock Yellow interior found on the 2022 C8.R Editions while the car has also been updated with five-point race harnesses.
Each of the racers appear to struggle somewhat with getting the seat belts on, and then from the pits, Hunter-Reay engages Launch Control and off they go, with Rinus commenting that move will get them a drive-thru penalty. Once around the circuit, Ryan brings the car in and they switch positions with Rinus Veekay driving.
At the conclusion of Veekay’s lap, he says, “It does feel a bit different in a car like this, but still, it’s fun…heart rate’s up, we’re ready to go!” to which Ryan Hunter-Reay says, “That’s fun…how do we get one of those for home?
