Here’s a black 2016 Corvette with an interesting backstory that only came to life because of a stubborn decal residue on the back glass.

A Georgia long-haul trucker bought the Stingray recently and submitted a photo to Reddit asking if anyone knew how he could remove the annoying remnants of a big number “5” on the rear glass.

Based on responses from Reddit members, it turns out the Corvette apparently was once the pride and joy of the late Rich Piana, who turned a successful bodybuilding career into a stint as a motivational speaker before his untimely death in 2017.

The “5” decal refers to Piana’s program he started in 2014 called “5% Nutrition,” with that figure referring to “…the percentage of people that are out there actually doing whatever it takes to fulfill their dreams, to accomplish their goals, and to live the type of life they want to live.”

Piana won several major bodybuilding competitions, including National Physique Committee’s Mr. California in 1998. During his career, Piana openly admitted using steroids but is said to have educated his followers about the truth behind the bodybuilding industry and competitions concerning steroid use, advocating going all natural for those trying to decide between the two options.

Apparently, the trucker (who goes by the name of /u/R3DF41c0n on Reddit) didn’t realize who Piana was, but now says “Definitely makes the cars history a little more interesting.”

As for how to remove the remnants of that “5,” other Reddit users have suggested Rain-X, straight denatured alcohol, and goo-gone.

  1. I once removed the residue from a CORVETTE windshield decal from a 95 I used to own. First I carefully used Goof Off but it still left a faint image. Next I used Meguiar’s Cleaner Wax which removed the image and I ended up waxing the whole windshield with it which was a mistake. While driving the car in hard rain the windshield wipers would fly up off the windshield and hit each other and get bent and then slam back down on the windshield. Scared the shit out of me the first time it happened. I had to remove the wax from the windshield and replace my wipers. I never put car wax on a windshield again.

  2. In all seriousness, you did devise a way to remove that residue and you learned something very valuable which you’ve now passed on to those previously unaware. You’ve done the rest of us a service.
