[VIDEO] C7 Corvette ZR1 Runs 207 MPH on the Space Shuttle Runway

Well, this is an instance where the title pretty much says it all! The 2019 Corvette ZR1 still holds the title of most powerful Corvette ever built. Its front-mounted (remember when Corvette drivers sat behind the engine?) 6.2L LT5 V8 spends 110 horses just to spin the 2.65-liter supercharger protruding through its carbon fiber hood. Even with that parasitic loss, the engine nets an insane 755 horses and 715 lb.-ft. of torque. Chevrolet officially attached an impressive sub-three-second 60 MPH sprint, a 10-tick quarter mile, and a Cross Flag record top speed of 212 mph to its most musclebound Corvette.

The Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds YouTube channel recently set out to test those lofty claims by running an 8-speed version of the more aerodynamic low-wing ZR1 on one of America’s most remarkable stretches of asphalt; the Launch and Landing Facility of Florida’s Kennedy Space Center. The resulting video is only two minutes and three seconds long, but between the roaring quad exhaust and the stunning display of automotive athleticism, it is one of the best Corvette viewing experiences you’re likely to see today! If you’re still reading this for some reason, a few highlights to look for include the initial burnout and the outright speed causing the camera to struggle to keep its satellite signal early on! Watching the speedo rapidly jump to 165 is an incredible site, and the ensuing fight to extra-C6 ZR1 speeds is like its own little distilled Rocky film – truly incredible stuff! Along the way, we are treated to actual Space Shuttle sightings, leading to our only bit of constructive criticism; this thing should have been shot at night, so we could see the most recent King of the Hill do its fire-breathing spacecraft impression!

By the time it reaches the braking zone, 2.7-miles away, the ZR1 is traveling a touch short of its official top speed, but a measured 333.773 KPH (sounds more impressive than the already eye-popping 207.397 MPH) on a stock powertrain is nothing to scoff at! In fact, you might even say that ZR1 was “cooking biscuits!” Enjoy this one, Corvette Nation!

  1. Just incredible. Seemed to decrease it’s rate off acceleration at 170 by a significant amount .
Could be the Horrible dash. Needle moves like it missed a beat after 170.
