[VIDEO] HP Tuners Cracks the Code and Now Offers Tuning Support for the C8 Corvette

Prior to the launch of the C8 Corvette in early 2020, we learned that Chevrolet would be including GM’s new Global B electrical architecture on the mid-engine Corvette. The system is designed to move massive amounts of data from various sensors and control modules throughout the vehicle, and also allows for very convenient over-the-air software updates. One of the main strengths of Global B was that the engine control modules were encrypted to protect the car from hackers and unauthorized updates.

Of course, we know now that Global B’s cyber-security protocols would also lock out the aftermarket performance shops from being able to add a custom tune to the Corvette. Builders would eventually find some limited work-arounds such as adding secondary ECMs or tricking the sensors to not throw check engine lights.

One of the major players in the tuning aftermarket is HP Tuners who manufacture vehicle control modules as well as a host of programming tools. This week, HP Tuners has announced new support for Global B tuning on select GM Vehicles including the 2020-2023 C8 Corvette Stingray. Now, pro tuners and enthusiasts can be supported with tuning and diagnostics through the ODBII port using their HP Tuners’ VCM Suite Software and PMVI3 interface.

HP Tuners has created a process to unlock the GM Global B Control Modules and there is a one-time send-in upgrade service required. You send them your Corvette’s original engine control module (E99 ECM) and they send you back yours that is upgraded to enable diagnostics and tuning capability via their VCM Suite. Once your E99 ECM has been updated and returned, you can start scanning, data logging, reading, editing, and writing to your vehicle via its ODBII port. You’ll get access to engine parameters like boost, camshaft time, air/fuel ratio, injector timing, ignition timing, rev limiters, torque management and hundreds more to build a customized tune for your vehicle.

The cost of the E99 ECM Update is $1,499.99 and the reprogramming takes 1 to 3 business days. Check out this video as EddieX takes us through details:

  1. Those choosing to do this can look forward to registration blacklists in states like California, and voided warranties worldwide.

  2. They will send armed IRS and ATF agents to your house because the EPA is not armed yet. I am confident that GM will know you have voided your ECM using their over the air update system. Disable your OnStar antenna and good luck with inspections.
