[VIDEO] This or That: 550-hp C6 Grand Sport Takes on a 1,017-hp Raptor R Baja Truck

As a car hobbyist, there’s never been a better time to have a little extra scratch lying around. American automakers are at the top of their game, and from a performance standpoint, exotic cars have largely been rendered irrelevant. If you’ve got $150,000 to spend, there are some almost unbelievable homegrown automotive choices in front of you! Right now, Chevrolet will sell you a daily-drivable mid-engine supercar with a flat-plane V8 to shame the best Ferraris ever built! There’s an 807-horse V8 widely available in Dodge’s Charger/Challenger twins, and in the latter model, this so-called “Jailbreak” isn’t even the most powerful engine in the lineup! Elon is simply itching to sell you a four-door that’s capable of hitting 60 MPH in 2.1 seconds on its way to a 9.4-second quarter, and there’s not one, but two trucks on the market that boast 700 or more supercharged ponies from the factory; it is absolutely gobsmacking how much speed is available right off the showroom floor, right now!

While the present is an unmatched time to be financially comfortable, and it is always a good time to be even wealthier than that, it isn’t too shabby a time to have more modest W2s, either, and the Hoonigans are here to prove it… again! After naming the C6 Z06 autodom’s best bang for the buck and verifying that claim by using one to put a beat down on an Aston Martin Vantage for pennies on the dollar, the Hoonicrew has its hands on another high-dollar humbling C6. This time they went with the LS3-powered Grand Sport of 2010-2013, which, even in as-new 7,000-mile condition, can be had under $50,000 all day long in today’s market.

As you might expect, the mod-happy Hoons couldn’t help but splash a little paint on the blank canvas of the GS. After bolting on a few cheap ‘n easy upgrades, the 6.2L now makes a dyno-verified 550 HP while retaining its original naturally aspirated deliciousness. Pair all of that grunt with the Grand Sport’s lithe 3,300 lbs., and you’ve got something that isn’t afraid to mix it up with the new supercharged V8 Raptor that your buddy keeps running his mouth about dropping $120k on. Hoonigan doesn’t stop with the stock Raptor R, either. No, friends, they’ve also brought along a real Baja Raptor with a claimed 1,017 twin-turbo horses at its disposal.
