Corvettes for Sale: Numbers-Matching 427/4-Speed 1969 Corvette Stingray

Despite its somewhat ragged appearance inside and out, this 1969 Corvette Stingray has two “big” things going for it: its matching numbers big-block L36 427/390 Turbo-Jet V8 engine and its C60 four-season air conditioning.

This vintage second-year C3 is up for sale out of the Virginia Beach, Virginia area on eBay, where the “Buy It Now” price is $28,000.

The car has been sitting inside for many years, according to the seller, and will require “some work” to resume life as a daily driver.

But he has done some of the work already for a new owner, adding a new windshield, water pump, battery, exhaust, and brake job (including calipers and master cylinder) and performing a recent tune-up.

Other good news is that the fiberglass body is described as “solid” and “very straight,” with “only some minor bumps and bruises” and the metal birdcage and windshield frame are said to be “very solid.”

The original Cortez Silver paint has been redone in the past, but it’s now faded and worn and could use another shot from the paint gun, along with a decision to repair the holes left behind by a now-departed luggage rack. (Personallly, we like the look of a luggage rack on these C3s.) Likewise, the Gunmetal Gray interior is in dire need of refreshening.

Mechanically, though, the car “starts, runs, drives, and stops very well” with its 427/390 engine, four-speed manual transmission, and 3:08 Posi-traction rear end, the listing says, adding that the tilt-telescoping steering wheel is said to be “tight.”

This Stingray also has the luxury of leaving the St. Louis factory well-equipped, including power steering, power brakes, AM-FM radio, side fender louver trim, PO2 full metal deluxe wheel covers, and the aforementioned air conditioning and tilt-tele wheel.

Will you be willing to take plunge and save this ’69 Corvette, one of 22,129 coupes made that year, along with another 16,633 convertibles.

  1. I don’t recall ever seeing so much rust on a steering column and signal/tilt levers before. Just a result of sitting for many years in a humid environment, or something more? Would be interested to know why the carpet was removed, and what it looked like condition-wise before it was removed. Wonder if standing water was allowed to accumulate in the interior.
