While this isn’t exactly an apples to apples comparison, watching this 2023 Corvette Z06 take on the Texas Mile reminds us of a C8 Stingray with Z51 which recently did a top speed run at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds at the Kennedy Space Center.
In that video, we watched as the Z51 Stingray with a low-profile spoiler took nearly 2.7 miles to reach its top speed of 191.7 mph on the former space shuttle runaway. Here, the 670-hp 2023 Z06 is able to get up to 182 mph in just one mile, and it looked like the Corvette still had some more in her for more!
Chevrolet told us last August that the top speed of the Z06 was 195 mph for the base car, and 189 mph for the cars equipped with the Z07 Performance Package. However, at the time of that discussion, engineers had still not run an official high-speed test which requires two flying runs in each direction.
We have no idea what the specs are on this C8 Z06 that was entered at the Texas Mile, but statistically speaking, it’s most likely a base car due to the heavily demand and lack of aero for the Z07 and its high wing. The owner who posted the video only says that run was the fastest of four runs made, which ranged from 174.8 mph to 182.0 mph:
2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Texas Mile – March 2023
I did 4 runs total
174.8 (no launch control, 90 degrees, slight crosswind)
182.0 (with launch control and tailwind)
181.8 (with launch control and tail wind – This video is this run)
177.0 (with an ok launch control and slight headwind)
