Corvette Nation, are you ready for the RAD!

Some call it a car show, others call it a party. When it comes RADwood, both are correct!

Hagerty’s RADwood is a celebration of ’80s and ’90s automotive lifestyles and they have partnered with Hendrick Motorsports to bring the RAD to Charlotte this Saturday, April 1st at the Hendrick Motorsports Complex. It’s the car show that blends automotive awesomeness with period correct dress. Come check out the vintage cars, trucks, and motorcycles from the time period, as well as the participants who are encouraged to come out dressed in period-era outfits!

Remember the good old days when wearing a Member’s Only jacket was cool? You listened to your tunes on a Walkman while checking the time on your Swatches? Gen X-ers and millennials remember the ’80s and ’90s being a great time to grow up in, and RADwood is here to remind us of the car culture from our youth.

If you have 1980-1999 Corvette or other vehicle that you think would fit right at home with the RADwood experience, the cost to show it is just $35 with the only consideration being you must stay until the end of the show (3pm or so). If you have what the organizers at Hagerty would call RADwood Royalty, then you can get special parking for $100. These spots are curated so you can inquire about one of those positions here.

RADwood’s first visit to Charlotte gets underway at 10:00 am on April 1st and spectator tickets are just $15 each. Once inside, you’ll hear a live DJ spinning tracks from the era, and you can check out the cars, trucks, motorcycles, as well as the participants who are vying for a number of RAD trophies. Awards include the RADDEST Domestic, Import, Truck, and Motorcycle. Then there is the RADDEST Dressed, and even best Accessory (like a color-matched BMX bike). There’s an award for the best RADMOD (restomods), and the TimeWarp award gives recognition to the vehicle displaying perfect originality!

Participants and visitors can also sign up for tours of the Hendrick Motorsports facilities. For those into the racing teams, you can do the Hendrick Motorsports Tour and see were the team builds its racing engines, as well as the race shops where the cars are assembled and prepped for Chase Elliott, William Byron, Alex Bowman, and Kyle Larson. You can also take a step back in time with a visit to the famous Hendrick Heritage Center, featuring Rick Hendrick’s personal automotive collection of more than 200 vehicles shown including the first VIN 001 Z06! Those tours are $25 each and all proceeds go to The Hendrick Family Foundation which supports a number of charities.

RADwood is all about traveling back in time to a radder era, and Hagerty says RADwood helps preserve not only the vehicles of that era but helps in the preservation, education, and feeling of the time. That’s pretty RAD in our book and it’s about time the car culture from 1980-1999 is celebrated in its own unique way.

Come out to RADwood Charlotte at Hendrick Motorsports on April 1st!
