Hendrick Motorsports has announced that Jordan Taylor will be taking over the driving duties for the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro when the series heads to Austin, Texas and Circuit of the Americas for the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix on Sunday, March 26th.

Chase Elliot drives the No. 9 Chevrolet for Hendrick and he suffered a broken leg in a recent snowboarding accident and will be out for six weeks. Also subbing for Elliot is Josh Berry who will drive the oval tracks while Elliot recovers. Berry drove for Elliot on Sunday, finishing 29th at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Taylor has recently gotten to know the Hendrick Motorports team through the Garage 56 NASCAR project which will run at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this June. Taylor is serving as Hendrick’s “Driving Coach” for the Garage 56 team while also working with Willian Byron and other NASCAR drivers on road courses.

The two-time IMSA Champion took to Twitter to comment on the COTA opportunity, and Chase Elliot weighed in on who is really going to be driving at COTA:

Taylor tweeted the following statement on Tuesday afternoon, “So honored to be asked by @TeamHendrick to fill in for Chase at Circuit of the Americas in the #9 car. This is obviously under difficult circumstances with Chase being injured. It is going to be a heck of a learning curve, but I hope we can make him proud while he’s recovering.”

Taylor will be making his first NASCAR start at COTA, but he has seen success there with Corvette Driving with four starts and two wins coming in 2016 and 2017.

“We’re focused on getting Chase back to 100%, so we’ll take however much time is necessary and make sure he has the best resources available,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “Josh was impressive this weekend under difficult circumstances, and we look forward to having him drive the oval tracks until Chase is able to return. Jordan is a world-class road racer and has recently been working with our Garage 56 team preparing for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He’ll be able to step in and do a great job at COTA.”

  1. Should be interesting to see how Jordan fares against the door bangers. Great racing organization but the dealers still suck.
