[STOLEN] Thieves Steal a C8 Corvette and Six Other Vehicles from Chevy Dealer in North Carolina

Security cameras captured it all, but four daring thieves still managed to make off with seven high-dollar vehicles – including two Corvettes – during a pair of break-ins overnight Sunday at a North Carolina dealership.

Among the cars stolen from Capital Chevrolet Buick GMC in Lexington, North Carolina were 2020 and 2015 Corvettes, two ZL1 Camaros, a BMW 3 series, a BMW X5, and a Dodge Charger.

General Manager Chris Clark says the dealership had recently replaced the glass at the facility but the hooded suspects used a large crowbar to break in, then quickly headed through the building, unhooking the internet, unplugging everything in the back room, and breaking into the key machine with the crowbar during the first of two break-ins that night. That time they made off with four vehicles.

“They left right at 2:35 and came back at 5:58 in the morning and went for round two in the morning,” Clark told Fox8 News, taking an additional three cars.

Clark believes the precision of the crimes shows that the suspects had scouted the dealership before the break-ins.

“You can tell they’ve been at this dealership before,” he said, “because they came in here and knew exactly where to go, they knew exactly what they were looking for and exactly where to start. I think they knew what they were doing. They came in with a purpose. We had everything locked up, the alarms were on, and everything was the way it should’ve been, it was just their timing was quicker than everybody else’s.”

A dealership employee discovered the break-in only an hour after the second entry. “My girlfriend was actually the one that noticed,” Dakota Willingham told WFMY News 2. “She said, ‘The door is broken,’ and when I took a look, I knew right then, the glass was gone. The whole glass is broken. I knew the cars are gone. “The Lexington Police Department is investigating the thefts and estimates the value of the stolen vehicles at $344,483.

Clark says the “good news is we do have OnStar on a couple cars to ping everything and get everything tracked, to see if we can get any leads off of it.”

He’s also asking residents to be on the lookout for the cars. “They’re all unique colors and they all stand out,” Clark said. “So any leads anything we’d love to hear about it.”

Clark says the thefts are discouraging since the dealership was heading into the end of the month and was hoping to reach sales goals.

“We are very frustrated…we’re trying to sell cars and make a living, and having to deal with this is not exciting,” Clark said, adding that Capital is sharing the security video with other dealers to spread the word.

  1. Emboldened criminals who probably committed crimes as juveniles with no consequences. They know if they get caught they will be out of jail in hours. Maybe even without bail. Time for tougher laws against crime.

  2. I’ve worked in car dealerships in manager positions, and first thought reading this is these guys probably worked there at some time — or still do. The tell is they knew what was in non-public rooms. Don’t feel sorry for the dealer, he’s probably well insured for all losses.
