GMSV Tells Local Dealers to Hold Off on Accepting Down Payments for the C8 Z06

Enthusiasts in New Zealand longing for a new mid-engine Corvette Z06 will probably be waiting for a while.

In fact, a New Zealand-based website called Driven.co.nz reports that the NZ distributor of the second Corvette variant says it will not take orders and deposits aren’t being taken, and even though one Z06 has reportedly been delivered to GMSV in Australia, that doesn’t mean sales of the Z06 to customers are imminent.

General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV), which handles sales of the Corvette in Australia and New Zealand, reports that it doesn’t know its allocation, the cost of the cars, nor when they will be available so it “is advising its dealers they should not take any deposits” for the new Z06, according to Driven.

“This information isn’t available at this stage but will be released when we receive details regarding our allocation,” a GMSV spokesman told Driven.

If it’s anything like the base Stingray model, our friends down under may be waiting for awhile for the few Z06s likely to make their way there eventually.

Availability of the C8 Stingray was announced for New Zealand in April 2021, but only four customers had received their cars before the end of the year. Adds Driven: “It appears GMSV has fulfilled the original allocation of four C8 Stingrays for each of the seven national dealerships: 28 cars. It also has two fleet cars, used for evaluation and media driving.”
