This 1959 Corvette convertible underwent an extensive refurbishment in the early 2000s, but apparently, it’s still not showing any signs of aging after being deemed worthy of an NCRS Top Flight Award three months ago.
It’s currently being offered on Bring a Trailer, where the current bid is showing definite signs of respect for the condition of this 64-year-old Corvette, hitting $90,000 already with six more days to go!
During that body-off refurbishment nearly 20 years ago, the car received a new red paint job with white coves after the chassis was powder-coated in black and the exposed fiberglass underside left unfinished.
Mechanically, this Corvette also boasts of some pretty rare options, not the least of which is the 283 fuel-injected V8 under the hood which apparently is the 579D option that provides 290 horsepower, the highest available that year. Interestingly, the lesser-powered and far less popular 579 option that made only 250 horsepower cost the same back in the day – $484.20.
Furthermore, this car is one of only 142 Corvettes that year that included the heavy-duty suspension and ventilated drum brakes, an option that cost nearly as much as the engine at $425.05.
Other features include a four-speed manual transmission, white soft top, removable body-color hardtop, and dual exhaust outlets through the split rear bumper.
As you might expect from a Top Flight winner, this Corvette has apparently been treated like royalty after that earlier restoration, with the replacement red vinyl upholstery still in like-new condition.
The odometer shows 2,400 miles, believed to be the total mileage driven since the restoration.
