[VIDEO] Speed Phenom Battles Porsche GT3s at Willow Springs


We got a great video from Speed Phenom today and we finally get to see some track battles with his new 2023 Corvette Z06. Speed returns to Willow Springs and nearly the entire video is shot Point of View (POV) from behind the wheel, with some other cameras providing great views as well.

Also on the track are several Porsches and even a Tesla Plaid is out, and Speed tracks them down and passes with ease. The nice on-screen shoutout he gives each one is a nice touch!

The Z06 on the straitaways is really moving and we saw the 140s several times. At one point Speed is yelling exuberantly as the car sticks to the track and he’s able to hit all his turns. To say the kid is having a good time would be an understatement.

At about 10 minutes into the video he feels the grip is gone from the front tires and he brings it in for a closer look. The Michelin Cup 2R tires were indeed cooked with only two track days with them on the car.

“They’re done! They’re completely done. That blows my mind how fast we went through them. Our fastest time today was just under 1:30, not anything faster than 1:29, and that is because of our tires. They’re done. It feels night and day different than it did a week ago when I tracked at Auto Club Speedway. This car changes drastically with the tires and the Cup 2Rs even though they said they’ll last a little bit, in my experience, they will not last you very long if you try to push the car. So if we would put on a new set, I think we would easily be able to drop at least five, six seconds because the level of confidence in the grip you get with a brand new set versus this, it’s night and day. It’s not even on the same realm so that shows you how how long you get with.”

  2. I would love to see your car on the NCM track. I have been on NCM several times so It would allow me to appreciate just how much faster the Z06 is over my other two Corvettes

  4. The Z06 is rapidly surpassing the Miata as the official pace car of the Soy Boy 500. Apparently it’s now the ultimate status symbol for girls and sissies. Another sad day for Chevrolet.
