We received word earlier this week from one of our readers that his 2023 Corvette Z06 has already been built.

Now comes even more good news, this time from Sportscar365 reporting that the 2024 Z06 GT3.R completed its first shakedown Tuesday at General Motors’ Milford Proving Grounds in Michigan.

An undisclosed Corvette Racing factory driver was behind the wheel to put the first miles on the Pratt & Miller-built GT3 car that will reportedly be undergoing its first track test as early as next week.

The GT3.R is based on the Z06 production car. Like both it and the C8.R, the GT3.R will feature the same 5.5-liter double overhead cam LT6 V8 flat-plane crank engine.

The current C8.R GTD will give way to the GT3.R in 2024 when Chevy is expected to field two factory cars in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD Pro class.

For the first time, Chevy will also offer a “turn-key, customer-focused” Corvette for GT3 worldwide competition, with GM reporting a lot of interest already as it works on final support packages and plans for each region.

  1. Where is [GM employee] Corvette Nut or [fellow GM colleague] Chazcron when you need them? Between the two of them, they’re almost at every place a new Corvette variant just happens to be!

In all seriousness, they’re probably trying to meet the same homologation deadlines the Ferrari 296 GT3 is.

We’ll see this sexy beast, likely in camo skin, before Thanksgiving…you heard it here first!

  2. Bravo! Let’s go smoke the competition! I guess no Corvette Racing in IMSA next year in 2023. I don’t know why IMSA did that, eliminated a class of racing for a year. Why not continue the GRD Pro for next year & go with the new GT3R class for 2024? Pretty stupid on IMSA’s part.

  3. IMSA=Morons Yes I can hardly wait for the new car to woop some ass, of course they will punish the car for being so awesome that nobody can compete and then they add weight like they do now and then ya don’t forget GM and their never ending problem building the cars.

  4. IMSA owned by Nascar will follow it’s parent and have just one chassis for all competitors Of course there will be different grills and headlight stickers. Then IMSA will be just like Nascar and start losing fans.

  5. When will a price point be established for the consumer based ZO6 GT3. Hopefully its ready for 2024.
