Our feature cars this month are among the best late models on the market today. They each represent the upper echelon of the Corvette portfolio for their given model year and have been gently used since new. How gentle? The cumulative sum of the mileage of our three September features totals just 32,000 since their respective born-on dates.

1990 Black / Red ZR1

In 1990 Chevrolet put the world on notice that Corvette was now a true supercar when the ZR-1 returned for the first time since 1972. The biggest news was under the C4 clamshell hood in the form of the 375hp DOHC, 32 valve, LT5 engine. The first overhead cam and multivalve engine ever in a Corvette was designed in Europe by Lotus and assembled in Stillwater, Oklahoma by Mercury Marine. From there, the LT5s were installed into Corvettes in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The ZR-1 also featured special bodywork from the A-pillar back, which added 3 inches of width to the car. The extra space allowed for massive 315-width tires out back. In its debut year Chevrolet sold over 3,000 ZR-1’s.

The Corvette ZR1 is probably best known for the many speed records that it holds. The most notable of which is the 24-hour endurance record of 175.885 mph.

Corvette Mike’s 1990 ZR-1 remains in nearly new condition with just 1,800 miles on the odometer. It’s one of 907 born in Black. That dark exterior is complemented by a striking bright red interior. Options include ZR1 staples like the 6-speed manual transmission, FX3 adjustable suspension, and sport seats. Interestingly, this ZR-1 is one of the few built with the manual HVAC system.

2001 Millennium Yellow Z06

In 2001, fifth generation Corvette production was hitting its stride. A total of 35,627 cars were made that year. Of those, 5,773 were the new Z06 model, a name not seen in Corvette land since 1963. The Z06 picked up where the Fixed Roof Coupe left off in 2000 but was now a track-focused beast powered by an all-new 385-hp LS6 engine. It also received unique wheels, vents in front of the rear wheel wells, and other small features to differentiate it from its lesser siblings. A manual transmission was mandatory. In February 2001, Automobile Magazine named the Z06 its Automobile of the Year.


This Millennium Yellow Z06 is just in from Texas and shows 27,000 miles on the clock. The bold Millennium Yellow paint has been ceramic coated and sports a clear bra up front. The black interior complements that bright paint and remains in nice condition. Outside we see the optional body side moldings flanking each door.


Overall, this is a nice first year Z06 that’s just waiting for you to take it home.

2003 50th Anniversary Convertible

Corvette turned 50 in 2003. To celebrate, Chevrolet released the 50th Anniversary Package for coupe and convertible models. RPO 1SC cost $5,000 and added special Anniversary Red Paint, Shale colored interior, 5-spoke pewter painted wheels, and magnetic ride control. A total of 11,632 (33% of production) Corvettes got the 50th anniversary treatment that year. Of those, 7,547 were convertibles.


Our 2003 50th Anniversary Corvette has traveled just 3,200 miles since new. It’s powered by the 345-hp LS1 engine and backed by the desirable 6-speed manual transmission. It presents as you’d expect a 3,200 mile car to present, appearing virtually as new. Like all 50th Anniversary cars, this one is loaded with the Bose stereo, automatic climate control, body side moldings, and CD changer. Add all that up, and you’ve got the perfect Corvette for a long cruise down the Pacific Coast Highway.
