Freije and Freije's Big Boy Toy Auction Takes Place September 17th in Indiana

Freije and Freije Auctions is hosting their Big Boy Toy Auction this coming Saturday, September 17th. The event will take place at 2340 W US Highway 40 in Clayton, Indiana. Festivities begin promptly at 9am.

The docket is a smorgasbord of vehicles, road art, memorabilia, and more. Perusing the automotive side of the docket, we see a total of 169 cars seeking new homes. Of those, 18 (~11%) are Corvettes. Taking a deeper dive into the Corvette pool, we see cars from 5 of the 8 generations, with C3s making up 30% of the available Corvettes. Next, we find 4 C2s and 3 examples each from the 1st and 5th generations. The 4th and 8th generations each check in with 1 car, respectively.

While we’d love to park any of these great cars in the CorvetteBlogger garage, here are a few Corvettes we’ll be keeping our eye on when they cross the block in Indiana.

1965 Blue/White Air Conditioned Convertible

1965 Blue/White Air Conditioned Convertible
Corvette’s 2nd generation ran from 1963 – 1967. Today, C2’s, or midyears as they’re also referred to, are arguably the most popular genre of Corvettes among collectors. The 5-year span of the C2 Corvette saw the birth of many iconic Corvette features, including disc brakes, independent rear suspension, hidden headlights, and side exhaust. It was also the first Corvette generation to get a big block engine with the 396ci rat motor in 1965.

Freije and Freije’s 1965 Corvette is one of the 15,376 convertibles produced that year. It’s also one of just 2,423 produced with optional air conditioning. Power comes from a 327ci engine mated to a 4-speed transmission. It’s finished in Nassau Blue over a white interior. Other features include a teak wheel, side exhaust, and knock-off wheels wrapped in white wall radial tires.

2021 Black/Black Stingray Coupe

2021 Black/Black Stingray Coupe

The 8th generation Corvette was an instant hit. After its California debut in 2019, demand spiked and hasn’t relented since. Today, customers wait as long as 2 years to order one or pay considerable sums over the sticker price to own one right away.

The sinister 2021 black/black Stingray offered at the Big Boy Toy sale is well equipped with the Z51 package, the rear high wing, carbon fiber ground effects, black trident wheels, red brake calipers, engine appearance package, and more. Inside, the black interior features red stitching and even more carbon fiber. The car appears as new with just 431 miles shown.

1954 Blue/Beige Convertible

1954 Blue/Beige Convertible
1954 was the 2nd year of Corvette production. Building on the success of 1953, Chevrolet ramped up production and moved it to St. Louis, Missouri. All that anticipation added up to 3,640 Corvettes built that year. We also saw two new colors in the form of Pennant Blue and Sportsman Red. Unfortunately, the 6-cylinder performance and relatively high price tag left many unsold at the end of 1954, which helped fuel the need for 1955’s V8 engine.

The 1954 Corvette Roadster offered here is one of just 300 produced in handsome Pennant Blue. It’s complemented by a beige interior and red wheels sporting the traditional hubcaps and wide white wall tires. An automatic transmission routes the Blue Flame power out back. The listing shows a Corvette that appears to have been restored back to factory specs, and the odometer reads 48,054 miles.
