Getting into the Corvette hobby doesn’t have to mean paying an arm and a leg.

Witness this 1973 Corvette T-top coupe that’s ready to return to the road after spending more than 15 years in dry storage.

This white Stingray is now being offered on Craigslist out of Lincoln Park, Michigan, a few miles southwest of Detroit, at the asking price of $6,600 “although that figure is negotiable,” the must-seller admits.

After sitting that long, the owner flushed all the fluid systems and says the 350 engine – probably the lower-powered L48 if we had to guess – now “runs great” after the addition of a brand new Edelbrock 600 carburetor.

You might say the ’73 was the first “hybrid” Corvette as it marked the debut of the polyurethane front bumper on the Stingray, in response to federal 5 mph crash mandates. Unfortunately, this one happens to be missing, though that might actually be a good thing since the originals sometimes become wavy and discolored over the years. By the way, the chrome bumper remained in place at the rear end for another year.

This car is cheap enough that it would make a good project car for a first-time restorer or a family seeking quality bonding time.

The exterior of the car doesn’t seem to have any noticeable damage, and the white paint might look fairly decent with a little elbow grease and a new coat of wax. Replacing the front bumper with a reproduction at a cost of about $400 would go a long way toward dressing up the outside, too.

The original Medium Saddle interior needs a deep cleaning for sure, but it might be surprising how good it could look with years of dirt wiped off.

The seller claims that “most everything” still functions on the car, which is alleged to have only 79,000 miles – not too far-fetched of a claim considering the fact that it’s been off the road for so long.

It’s hard for this writer to believe that the ‘73s are now 50 years old, but that just means they’re rare enough to draw attention on the road these days. What steps would you take if you bought this one?
