Dealers Can Submit Preliminary Z06 Orders on July 28th but Actual Ordering Could Still Be Weeks Away

As we continue the march to the ordering and eventual production of the 2023 Corvette Z06, some more details on the ordering process have come to life.

Dealers are now reporting that the 2023 Corvette Z06 Coupe and Convertible models are showing up in GM’s workbench order system as we gear up for the opening of the Z06 order bank on July 28th. However, any orders submitted on the 28th and thereafter are only preliminary orders. GM might not start pairing orders with allocations for another few weeks afterward.

As dealers start adding their customer’s order details into Workbench, those preliminary orders will go in at Status 1100. At some point before the first actual order cycle, Chevrolet will release the allocations to the dealers. Again, we are being told there isn’t a separate allocation for the Z06s. Instead, dealers may see a “number” or “percentage” of Z06s vs the total monthly allocations they will be allowed to order.

GM Workbench Order System

Some dealers we know are holding off on entering preliminary orders because many customers are still making changes and updating their final builds. The latest word is that the Z06 Order Guide will be coming out on Monday, July 25th, which will undoubtedly lead to more order updates as buyers see the options and packages and make their changes accordingly.

The other side of this process is that dealers still don’t know how many cars they can expect, and it has been reiterated time and again that the Z06 will have a slow rollout before GM ramps up production to whatever its percentage vs Stingrays will ultimately end up to be. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a very low count that first week of production, and then there will be the anticipated Quality Control process that could keep a number of Z06s on the property before they are released to dealers. So patience is still requested as GM works to move forward.

Finally, those of you waiting for the Z06’s build and price configurator to go live, I have no news on that front. Don’t be surprised though if Z06 ordering opens up in August before the configurator goes live. Like the 2023 Stingray, which saw the car start production before the build and price configurator went live, GM has also been late with several configurators for 2023 Cadillacs, with the configurators going live weeks after ordering started for the Cadillac XT4, XT5, and XT6 models.

  1. Sounds like GM would like a preliminary idea of how many Z06 buyer canceled their orders. For me owner of six generations of Corvettes will no longer patronize GM. They are no longer a family Dream car idealogy.
