It’s been used for racing for a half-century, but this C2 Corvette is still raring to go.
In fact, the current owner – who bought the car in 2005 – says it ran most recently at the 2020 Sebring SVRA, where it did a test session with Olthoff/Olthoff Racing out of Mooresville, North Carolina after having new Curt Cutchens J56 brakes installed.
>Now, the car – which first underwent a racing conversion in 1972 and has since competed in SCCA, SVRA, and HSR events – is on the auction block on Bring a Trailer, where the high bid so far has reached $10,500 with six days to go.
If you’ve been to the National Corvette Museum, you may have seen this car as it was on display there for six months as part of the Mid Year Corvette Racing display.
Features of the car – which is painted red with a chartreuse racing stripe – include a 336 V8 engine, T101 four-speed dog box transmission, Edelbrock intake manifold, 750 cfm Willy’s racing carburetor, dry-sump oil system, custom exhaust headers, Holley electric fuel pumps, Tilton triple-disc clutch, Tom’s Differentials Positraction rear end with 3.73:1 gearing, 15-inch Torq Thrust wheels (in green), Hoosier racing tires, low-cut windscreen, fixed headlights, roll cage, Sparco racing seat, quick-release Sparco steering wheel, Pro-Comp instruments, fire-suppression system, and ATL aluminum fuel cell.
Furthermore, the engine was built with Dart block, Dart steel cylinder heads, Callies crankshaft, Oliver connecting rods, Jesel rocker arms, Comp Cams roller camshaft, titanium intake valves, and Performance Springs triple valve springs.
