[PICS] Digital Artist Creates a ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Rendering of the Manta Ray Concept

The Manta Ray concept car, which evolved from the Mako Shark II, never made it to production, unfortunately.

But more than 50 years later, that hasn’t stopped enthusiasts like graphic designer Toghrul Hasanov, known to his fans as “Toggie,” from dreaming about such a sports car and bringing into the modern age.

Toggie recently put his spin on that original Manta Ray through the eyes of a “Cyberpunk 2077” filter, and it’s too bad such a Corvette, like its predecessor, will never see the light of day in real life out of a General Motors factory. FYI, Cyberpunk 2077 is an action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt RED and released in 2020.

Like the production C7 and C8 of today, the reimagined Manta Ray includes extra vents that are both functional and pleasing to the eye, with the air extractors on the front wings and the air outlets on the front hood all inspired by the gills of sea creatures like the original C3-based Manta Ray (an evolution of the Mako Shark II and the earlier C2-based Mako Shark I) created by legendary designer Larry Shinoda.

Back in the day, of course, no one knew about LED lights, but now this new Manta Ray adds that modern touch to both ends of the car, with the front headlights, tucked to the side of the pointed front end and quad taillights integrated into the diffuser to make it look like a Manta Ray swimming away in the ocean.

Key homages to the past are the beefy white-letter Goodyear tires and the side exhaust pipes that send the rumbling of the mystery engine out into the world. While Toggie doesn’t tell us which powerplant he’d prefer, we’d like to think the C7 ZR1’s 755-horsepower LT5 or the upcoming C8 Z06’s 670-horsepower flat-plane V8 would be a fitting addition to his creation, don’t you?
