[VIDEO] Taking a Closer Look at the 70th Anniversary 2023 Corvette Z06 Indy 500 Pace Car

As we shared earlier this week, our good friend Byron Glover Jr of the Drive 615 YouTube channel was in Indianapolis over the weekend as a guest of Chevrolet and he had unprecedented access to the 2023 Corvette Z06 Indy 500 Pace Cars. Making these Pace Cars even more special is the fact that Chevrolet choose the 70th Anniversary Package which was then further customized with the Indy 500 custom livery.

Byron’s first video we shared featured a hot lap around the historic 2.5-mile oval track with GM Ride and Handling engineer Aaron Link and we actually get a look at the on-track video from the Z06 via the Performance Data Recorder at the end of this new video, so make sure you stay until the end.

With today’s video, Byron takes a slow crawl around the official Z06 Pace Car so you can see what Chevy had to do to turn it into the Pace Setter for the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. That includes safety equipment which featured a roll bar and five-point harnesses as well as the integration of the safety lights all around the car. These were interesting as Chevrolet was able to utilize some of the Z06’s front vents and the rear engine hatch for tucking in the strobe lights for an integrated look. Chevrolet’s Todd Christensen tells him “we custom make them so it appears integrated and really built into the car…most Pace Cars have a light bar that kinda messes up the look of the car. We can’t do that to Corvette…we got to make it look seamless.

Byron also takes a closer look at the Edge Red manifolds on the Z06’s LT6 V8 and it looks even better than we imagined. The Edge Red version really wakes up the dark engine bay and as Byron says, it really ties together all the other Edge Red options on the car that include the brake calipers, wheel stripes, and exterior accents on the racing stripe and aero kit. FYI, our poll on LT6 manifold colors has the Edge Red leading 81% over Silver (11%) and Black (9%).

Finally, there is a ton of exhaust notes and start-ups captured as Chevrolet staged the three Pace Cars on pit lane as well as the previously shared on-track experience with Aaron Link. Great stuff again from Byron so make sure you follow and subscribe to his channel for more Corvette content!

  1. Will these extra features (like the roll bar) be included in the Indy Pace Cars being sold to the general public? Or will they just be “paint and stripe” replicas? Yawnnn.

  2. The reporter is obviously not a car guy. And his use of the word SICK is sickening. Get a new reporter

  3. I suppose these Pace Cars are EX cars but with three…they could certainly part with one at an auction that would bring huge money…What they could have tied into the Pace Cars subtly is the fact that 2023 is not just the 70th Anniversary of Corvette but the 60th Anniversary of the Z06 option. That should have been the Anniversary model for the Z06 while the Stingray got the 70th Anniversary. Whatever…give me a Pearl White Z06 and the Pace Car stickers…I love it.

  4. Just noticed the rear roof latch is undone at minute 1:35. Wouldn’t that have been something?
