[VIDEO] Mustang GT Takes on a C7 Corvette Stingray at the Drag Strip

It’s good to see a front-engine Corvette enjoying a day at the track, too.

With the new mid-engine eighth generation Stingray seemingly enjoying all the limelight these days, here we find a base model C7 Corvette taking on a sixth generation Ford Mustang GT in a drag race at Bandimere Speedway (also known as Thunder Mountain) in Morrison, Colorado.

No word on the exact specs of the two cars, but we’d assume the Corvette had the usual 6.2-liter V8 capable of cranking out 460 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, while the Mustang – depending on the exact year of the car – would deliver 435 to 460 horsepower and 400 to 420 lb-ft of torque.

Since we’re a little biased (okay, a LOT biased) for the Bowtie Boys, we didn’t really expect a Blue Oval car to stand much of a chance in this battle.

But we still didn’t think it would be quite this lopsided. As we see in this YouTube video, the Corvette falls slightly behind off the line, but then blows past the Mustang to record a slower-than-stock time of 12.339 seconds at 113.67 mph. The Ford showed up “the next day” with a very disappointing time of 14.221 at 98.90 mph.

We spotted this race on Auto Evolution, which speculates the big difference in the race may be due to the added weight of the passenger visible in the front seat at the 30-second mark of the video.

  1. Maybe the Mustang driver took his passenger wife to the All-You-Can-Eat Buffet on the way to the strip and got his money’s worth? Mustangs and fat girls. They say that they’re fun until your friends see you in them.

  2. Lol, what was the “Stang” owner expecting?? Other then the C7 falling asleep at the light all to be expected.
