Being at the NCM Bash allows us to ask all kinds of questions to the Team Corvette members in attendance and we appreciate all their attention during the three-day event. It also allows us to clarify with them things we’ve seen and heard previously and that’s the purpose of this post.

The C8 Z06 visualizer has been a good tool for allowing Corvette buyers to play with various options and see the virtual Z06s from all different angles. However, there have been some things that needed clarification (which could be done by releasing the Z06 order guide) and that includes the addition of the High Wing on the base Z06 (non-Z07). Those adding the High Wing Spoiler to their Non-Z07 Corvettes have seen the message box popup window that shows the required addition of Carbon Ceramic Brakes and Metallic Gray Brake Calipers along with the visible carbon fiber ground effects:

What we’ve found out for certain at the Bash is that you can’t order the High Wing without the Carbon Ceramic Brakes. It’s easy when you order the Z07 Performance Package as the Carbon Ceramic Brakes are included. You can add the ground effects package which includes the base spoiler to a non-Z07 without the Carbon Ceramic Brakes, but the moment you reach for the High Wing, you need to add the CCBs.

Our assumption with this addition is that GM wants to maximize braking on the Z06s with the higher level of aero (the higher level being the addition of the high wing.)

But the other part of this equation that had users confused is that the visualizer shows “CCBs with Metallic Gray Brake Calipers” and that’s because the Gray caliper is the standard default color. If you do add the Carbon Ceramic Brakes (J57) to your order, you have the following brake caliper color choices and are not just locked into the Metallic Gray:

  • (J57) Carbon Ceramic Brakes: Harbor Gray is standard. Options are Bright Red, Edge Red, Edge Yellow, and Edge Orange.
  • (J56) Cast Iron Brakes: Black is standard. Options are Bright Red, Edge Red, and Edge Yellow.

Knowing that the CCBs are required with the High Wing, it sure would be nice to know how much this is all going to cost. While it doesn’t cost anything to dream, serious Z06 buyers who are planning their builds now should at least have some inkling to know whether or not they are wasting their time.

Thanks again to our friends at the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com for helping to chase this down.

  1. At the speeds achievable with this beast, you should definitely not think about cheaping out on the braking ability, so good for GM!! 🙂

  2. those brakes are the Number 1 most important part of the car , next , the wheels & rubbers. playing with the big boys will make the StingRay premiums feel like pennies. nope , i can’t play in that league , gotta face reality. i bet the early z06s will sell for $200 plus , to the second owners and sticker for $150+…like chaz sez ,,, don’t cheap out on brakes….peace , love , golf & C8s

  3. my thought is this if the car’s frame is designated c-1 through c-8, i understand that there is a z-06 designation name as well, and then you have the z-07 package or z-51 package it seems it can be confusing at times ,i have a 2016 corvette stingray ,with the z-51 package, and the Lt 2 package, which is a c-7 .just seems to me a little crazy with all these number configs for one car example> it’s a c-7 ,z-06’with the z-o7 package and to top it of lets change the letters & numbers completely with the added LT-3 package maybe come up with a newer type of inclusion package reference and drop all the other ……..eh just a thought
