Corvettes for Sale: 17,877-Mile 1965 Corvette Convertible with 396/425 V8

One of the benefits of purchasing a classic Corvette from a large automotive collection is that these cars generally don’t get the miles put on them. Check out this 1965 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible with a reported 17,877 original miles that previously came out of a big collection and it’s now for sale on the Clasiq.com auction platform.

The Milano Maroon 1965 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible is located for sale in Lubbock, Texas and it was previously part of the Ron McWhorter Museum in Ruidoso, NM. McWhorter’s collection spanned nearly 300 cars and featured a hoard of hotrods, roadsters, and pickups. However, his specialty was Corvettes.

Once the new owner acquired the Sting Ray, it was given a complete nuts & bolts body-off restoration with the goal of recreating the same look as it had when it came off the factory floor. That means overspray and underspray in all the right areas. The meticulous attention to detail would also continue to the engine and suspension.

The ’65 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible is equipped with the one-year-only 396-425ci L78 V8 engine mated with a 4-speed manual transmission. Only 2,157 Corvettes were offered with the L78 due to it being introduced about a month before this Corvette was officially born (April 14, 1965). Other options include side exhaust and aluminum knock-off wheels.

The trim tag confirms it’s originally a 900MM-coded Milano Maroon car with black vinyl interior while engine stampings appear to show a matching numbers engine. The Corvette also still has its original distributor, water pump, and carburetor.

The Corvette has also undergone an independent pre-purchase inspection report and test drive that details a mostly clean Sting Ray Convertible with the only real concerns being the pop-up headlight motors. The seller has promised to fix the lights before shipping the car.

  1. I would take a close look at that car. A 1965 water temperature gauge does not have warning a warning zone
