Corvettes for Sale: 43K-Mile 1981 Has Been Garaged Since 1987

What memories this 1981 Corvette coupe on the market now brings back to this writer.

My first Corvette was a 1980 model in the same red-over-red combination, and I bought mine from a Delta airline pilot in 1983 – the same year as the second owner of this barn find from 2021.

The current owner, who purchased it in 2021 after it had been stored in a garage since 1987 by the long-time second owner, has done some minor work to the car and now has it up for sale on Craigslist out of the Merrick, New York area at the non-negotiable price of $11,500.

This Corvette has been driven just 43,000 miles over the past 41 years, and the condition of the car, especially the like-new interior, shows that limited use.

The red paint could use some work, especially on the scrape-prone front bumper. (I returned to my ’80 model one night after a high school basketball game, only to discover someone had backed into the front end – an easy fix but one that eventually wound up taking two coats of paint to get just the right shade.) The front bumper on this New York car may have been repainted at some point as it is a much darker shade of red, but with today’s computer matching, it might not be as hard now to match up with the rest of the car.

The seller says the car is now in running condition, and he’s done miscellaneous minor work, including all four brake calipers, master cylinder, and spark plugs. The original tires, as you might expect from sitting in a garage for three decades, are flat-spotted and will obviously need to be replaced.

Now, though, the current owner says he’s lost storage, interest, and time and is ready to send this late C3 classic off to a new home, one where hopefully it will see a lot of action on the road, making up for all that lost time.
