[PICS] C8 Corvette Convertible Owner Creates a See-Through Window to See His LT2 V8 Engine

There is a movement afoot among some C8 Corvette Convertible owners who are bound and determined to show off their LT2 V8 engines at car shows and other events.

As Chevy has the C8 HTC’s heat resistant engine panel locked down with 18 fasteners, we’ve seen some owners turn to surrounding the cover with magnets as a way to quickly reveal the engine while some others are taking the easy way out and by simply displaying a large photo mounted on top of the cover.

However, none of these solutions looks as good as this next project from Corvette Forum member “FalconF7”. Responding to an existing thread on a Convertible glass engine covers, he replies:

Yes. It’s in the works. I’ll give away a bit of the engineering that’s happening here in regard to insulating the hardtop compartment. It is two different glass types, dual pane in the section shown here, spaced apart and sealed with an intake of cool air being pumped in one side of the two panes then the hot air exhausting out the opposite side. This portion of the engineering and final design of the overall look should be wrapped up in a couple of weeks. After that, the exterior decklid will be designed with a proper-looking curved OEM appearing tempered safety glass. I’m shooting to get the whole project wrapped up by the spring.

The pics show a window that’s been cut into the heat shield to reveal the top of the LT2 engine. He put on a custom red engine cover to dress it up. Previous owners have said the engine covers fit with no apparent issues on the hardtop convertible models.

Also, as part of his engine dress-up package, FalconF7 replaced the engine support rails with bright aluminum rails with triangle cutouts visible from the window, and it looks like he added some custom covers to hide those various engine connections on each side of the red cover.

One of the issues with the magnet solution is that gaps in the cover allow noise and heat into the engine compartment, while this solution looks like you can fully lock down the cover. It will be interesting to see if his cooling process does indeed keep the heat out so we’ve subscribed to the thread to watch the completion of this project.

  1. Interesting engineering project, but silly when all is said and done.

    What’s the point? ?

  2. So, we have a window to see a covered engine?
Suppose the child bride 4th wife will be impressed along with the bros at the shady hills rest home.

  3. Great idea!! I hope the kit takes off for the designer by getting it marketed after testing for heat dispensation. I’m sure Chevy would sell a lot more HTC’s if this kit works. It would be nice to see the engine bay with the top up. Thumbs up!!! 🙂
