GM to Increase Revenue Through Launch of 50 New Digital Features by 2026

General Motors has ambitious plans to increase its revenue significantly by the end of the decade.

One way to do that is to offer customers more than 50 new fee-based digital features by 2026, according to Steve Carlisle, president of GM North America.

“We have 50-some value-added products and services that we’ll be rolling out over the next 36 to 48 months,” Carlisle said during an investor conference Thursday.

No word on how the current Corvette would be affected, but it’s likely that GM wouldn’t want to leave out some of its wealthiest customers, based on how buyers of the new mid-engine Stingray have been loading their new vehicles with plenty of options to push the MSRP way past the original base price of about $60,000. With the car attracting younger drivers now, it’s likely these newcomers would expect the latest technology available.

GM CEO Mary Barra announced in October that more data-driven services and products are part of the company’s plans to double annual revenue to around $280 billion by 2030.

GM’s OnStar division already produces some $32 monthly per customer, and that figure is expected to climb because of the new enhanced Super Cruise driver assist.

The upcoming digital features will take advantage of GM’s Ultifi software and connectivity platform, which allows over-the-air software updates (which have been offered on the Corvette since the eighth generation debuted in 2020) and helps drivers and passengers with tasks like online shopping.

Some of the new electric vehicles that will be offered by GM in the next couple of years, including the GMC Hummer EV, Chevrolet Silverado EV, and Cadillac Lyriq, will have larger display screens that “will enable us to bring more of the data-oriented software products to the customers,’ Carlisle said.

The new digital features may be offered with flexible pricing options, possibly with monthly, annual, or lifetime subscriptions being considered by GM, according to Carlisle.

  1. With Corvette, and most other GM Products, already having trouble getting “Chips” from overseas {china} is it WISE to add more and more electronic DISTRACTIONS for the driver..?
Do they “Make more Revenue” if the Assembly Plant is CLOSED for a Month to 6 weeks, waiting on more “Chips”..??
I do not “Need” a Corvette that cooks my dinner and cleans the table… I WANT a Corvette that is FaST and handles like it is on Rails… I don’t need a garage opener that plays music as the door opens, or drives itself and plays relaxing music, so I can take a NAP on the Interstate.

  2. Hmmm. Let’s get chips for the back up sensors on these ~ $100k cars and then we can start talking about all of the other crap GM is looking to make extra revenue on.

  3. This is the worst article that I’ve read on Corvette Blogger that I can recall. Besides the mentioned “shopping”, which I certainly have ZERO INTEREST IN DOING WHILE DRIVING, what “data-driven” digital features does GM have in mind for which I should pay anything? Try harder to get some real information before filling space with empty words.

  4. Really, everyone is complaining about distracted driving and now you want to add more. That is really funny since now I have a warning that comes up regularly on my infotainment screen warning about taking your eyes off the road. Then you have the stupid people messages like ice may occur in cold weather or your Bluetooth is hooked up.
If you don’t already know taking your eyes off the road is a bad idea or there may be ice in freezing temperatures then you’re really not smart enough to drive in the first place. And as for the Bluetooth or Wi-Fi being hooked up or my cruise control being set, just light an icon and be done with it.
Hope all this stuff if it takes driver interaction is only operable while car is stopped.

  5. NO DISTRACTIONS JUST DROVE HIWAY ONE TODAY FR MONTERY TO PISMO in MY 2021 C8 Z51 LT3 CONVERTIBLE GOING 80 AROUND ALL TERNS PASING AT ANY TIME ANY PLACE (AMAZING) I AM NOT TO TECK SO I AM NOT INTERESTED BUT PERFORMANCE IS LIKE I NEVER FELT BEFOR.
