Corvettes for Sale: Ermine White 1963 Corvette Convertible Ran When Parked

We’ve shown you barn-find Corvettes over the years that quite frankly look like they should be discarded at the local landfill.

That’s not the case with this 1963 Sting Ray convertible that’s up for sale on eBay AT NO RESERVE through Sunday, with the current bid reaching a very reasonable $34,100.

A look at the photos with the listing shows a Corvette that isn’t in perfect condition, but still looks nice and would turn a few heads going down the highway. Maybe that’s the point – a car like this in Concours condition would command well north of $100,000, making someone like me very paranoid about a mosquito breathing on it. This one appears to still look good from a few feet away – but not immaculate, so if a rock were to fly up and chip the paint, the owner wouldn’t go into mourning and fly the flag at half-staff for a week.

The listing provides very little detailed information, but the owner does say that his car is “all original” except for the headlights. We’re not sure what the motivation for adding those ugly fixed rectangular lamps was – perhaps the original rotating buckets quit working and they offered a cheap solution.

We’re also told that the car’s 327 NOM engine (connected to a four-speed manual, by the way) was running when a previous owner parked it in 2014, and even today it still turns over, though the current owner says he has not tried to crank it to prevent possible damage.

The Ermine White paint is the correct original color, but we’re not told if it is original. We’d lean toward a repaint at some point since it appears to still be fairly shiny and has only a few obvious flaws like peeling at the back of the rear deck.

The red vinyl interior completes the homage to the color palette of the original ’53 Corvette, and the seats and door panels remain in pretty decent shape for a driver classic. We’d like to see some refurbishing of the instrument panel, dash, and glovebox door, and maybe some new carpet and floor mats would spruce it up for not much money. A new ragtop would also add to the look as well.

Corvettes

I’ve owned all generations of Corvettes except for the C1 and C2, and this one is just down the road from me in Alexandria, Alabama.

Hmmmm, while that “no reserve” offer is mighty tempting, I guess a C2 will have to remain an item on my bucket list for the time being, at least until I win the lottery.

What about you? Would you restore this car all the way, or just avoid having to take nerve pills every time you drive it and leave it pretty much as-is?

  1. It’s very eye-catching in the exterior pics — an’ definitely a head-turner with the top down on a sunny spring day . . .
It needs some TLC and a restoration of the original rotating headlights (for sure!) . . .
(I don’t mind the ’65-’66 front fenders – but those fixed, square headlights gotta go.)
For the right buyer, it’ll likely be seen as a bargain an’ a terrific – and classic – C2 opportunity.
If accurate, the nearly 85,000 miles on the odometer suggest it has delivered many miles of smiles an’ happy motoring in its past life ~ after all, this Sting Ray is pushing sixty ~ and really doesn’t look bad at all for her age.

  2. Obviously, not all original paint if the front fenders are from the ’65-’66. Have a feeling this old Vette has really been through the wars and back.
