Corvettes for Sale: Corvette GTP Replica Racer on Bring a Trailer

From 1984 to 1988, Chevrolet combined forces with Lola Cars International to produce six race cars known as Corvette GTPs that ran in the IMSA Camel GT series.

Obviously, those cars are hard to find some 35 years later, but currently on the market is this car that started life as a stock 1985 Corvette but has been transformed into a GTP replica by an Ohio company named Mongoose Motorsports, a project ultimately completed by Florida-based Retro Classic Rides.

Acquired by a Texas dealer in 2019, they’re now offering the car on Bring a Trailer, where the current bid is $32,000 with five days left in the auction.

This GTP replica features many upgrades over a stock ’85, including a stroked and fuel-injected 383 V8 engine that’s been hooked to an Audi five-speed manual transaxle. A Missouri company serviced the engine in 2021, installing new hoses and AN fittings.

The car also features lots of modern improvements like a custom tubular subframe, dual radiators with electric fans, four-into-one tubular headers, tall brake cooling ducts, C5 Corvette suspension, Bilstein coilovers, 18-inch wheels repainted black last year inside 295/30 front and 335/30 rear Michelin Pilot Sport tires, adjustable carbon-composite spoiler, electronic scissor doors, power windows, air conditioning, door locks, dual side-view mirrors, a single windshield wiper arm, headlight covers, quick-release steering wheel, and back-up camera.

Recent improvements include bodywork and a subsequent repaint in white, blue, and red C4 Grand Sport-style paint, along with the installation of a replica #59 Hendrick Motorsports Corvette GTP livery vinyl wrap that even features faux tire rub marks, bugs, and dirt! By the way, the short-tail body was originally constructed in 2013 from a set of Lola molds.

Inside, you’ll find custom fixed-back racing seats trimmed in quilted red leather (said to provide space for drivers up to 6-2), as well as carbon fiber interior trim, flat-bottom Sparco steering wheel, and DigiDash with an LCD speedometer, shift lights, and digital fuel gauge.
